Moon Maiden 18-07-2003, 16:31 What about KNights in White Satin??? That is a nice one - reminds me of the periwinkle pub in Barnsley
Moon
starchild 18-07-2003, 18:33 It is Boys of Summer by Don Henley (Eagles) and was a hit in 1984 and the music video was rated one of the best of all time:)
alchresearch 18-07-2003, 21:56 Lovely Day by Bill Withers is a pretty good summer tune.
In fact, anything on Jazz FM. There's nothing like it on a hot day cruising in a cabroilet!
I can't get Jazz FM in Sheffield. I could in Liverpool (one of the few things that made life bearable) but not this side of the Pennines.

It’s my favourite ‘summer’ song too: from ‘Porgy and Bess’ (1935), written by George Gershwin and DuBose Heyward (lyrics). It’s one of the most recorded songs of all-time.
A second favourite is Mungo Jerry’s: ‘In the Summertime’
:)

What's this to do with summer M?
Beautiful tune, and interestingly still on many juke-boxes in the pubs around Sheffield. It's 36 years old next month.:)
I find guitar pop to be the best summery tunes.....here are a few:-
The La's - There she goes
Doves - Catch the sun
Levellers - What a beautiful day
Cardigans - Your new cuckoo
Coldplay - Green eyes
Wannadies - You and me song
Sundays - Summertime
Has to be .. Pali Gap - Hendrix - from the Rainbow Bridge LP.
Also how about ...
Summer Breeze - The Isley Brothers
mopfloyd 18-10-2003, 20:31 The Who
Live at Leeds
Summertime Blues
(Still no cure.Experts baffled)

Hi Abby
You can listen to jazz FM over the web.
It's good.
purplepippa 19-10-2003, 01:53 The ultimate summer song has to be Perfect Day sung by Lou Reed (as in Trainspotting when he sinks through the floor).
Oh yeah! :headbang:
When I was 17 I went on a holiday to Majorca with a friend. The song they played over and over was "Won't you take me to Funky Town. A big disco number in those days and I don't remember who played it. Every time I hear it, which is not very often these days, it makes me remember my holiday to Majorca. We had a blast. Drank too much, danced all night etc etc........... say no more. Makes me feel good when I hear it. I start bopping around.

That song is by Lipps Inc. Great tune.
Phanerothyme 21-10-2003, 09:51 for me it would have to be Blue Sky by ELO. The one that the DJs always fade out before the actual ending...
or
"The future's so bright I gotta wear shades" by Timbuk3
