View Full Version : Pubs in/near Meersbrook
I've must moved to Meersbrook, and as I like a tipple, I wondered if anyone could let me know what pubs are good?
I know the Sheaf View, its ace. Went in the red lion on chesterfield rd, a bit ropey! Heard the white is better.
Nearest pub to my house is the Cross Scythes....any opinions?
Cheers
neeeeeeeeeek 19-10-2004, 11:40 Sheaf view, pub of kings.. the Red is ok, lot of scallies but usually fine, White has music and Kareoke nights and stuff and is an interesting place!
The Red Lion used to be a really good pub before they turned it into a Mr Qs...
:(
carcrash 19-10-2004, 12:49 The Earl of Arundel has a lot of good things on..
yeah I know the Earl....only went there for Dust....then it closed.
Has it got a late license now or is it just pub times?
The police closed it last time….just a few hours before Dust was gonna be on too. pah. :(
officegirl 19-10-2004, 13:50 white lion great - quizz on sundays bewear of the regulars who are there every week to win both the quiz and raffle (gruop of blokes who huddle in a corner with about 3 quizz sheets)
but they do do a cracking pint of mild-ive been told by fantomas
its alot better than the red lion where u can chav spot very easily
Yeah…there was burberry check as far as I could see in the red lion. And the woman behind the bar took an instant dislike to me…for no reason, honest!
I shall pop in the white lion soon, if I can get my lazy arsed housemate to get off the sofa…...
Snakey_B 19-10-2004, 17:09 Bridge inn , bit of a dive but a plus is it has a pool table.
Ye olde summit on top of the road next to pondsford ,never been in.
Crown inn (inbetween the two lions im sure) once again ive never beeen in
Cross Scythes is run by my team leader at work' missus, so I best say it's good even though i've not been there ;)
Dick_Turpin 20-10-2004, 08:08 The Crown is a smashing boozer. Theres a few characters in the tap room.
Characters, excellent, always makes for a good time
I went in the Cross Scythes last night……done the music quiz, and it was pretty sound, made to feel very welcome, hurrah!
Hardly had any money tho', and their cash point was knackered, but still, a nice boozer.
theimposter 21-10-2004, 17:20 Victoria is probably the best. SHakespeare is ok...Waggon & Horses is a bit of a dump
HottyMcBuff 22-10-2004, 17:04 The red lion is well rough, some guy tried to start on my boyfriend in there just cause he was watching the tv screen in this guys direction. Also there is a crowd of people who stand in the same place at the bar all the time and glare at you if you stand too near. the white lion is good though especially the little room in the middle.
The Red Lion used to be good until they did it out to look like some crappy plastic shed. My money is on the sheaf view and the white lion!
tinajones 25-10-2004, 11:19 I think the Red is over 21's now - theres often fighting in there so I don't go in much anymore.
Has the Sheaf stopped doing sunday lunch or did it never do it?! I'm sure someone reccommended it to me...
well....ive been in most of them now. I have to conclude that the white lion and the sheaf are by far the best.
The red was ok for watching the footy results come in with a cheap pint on a sat afternoon, but I wouldnt fancy my chances there on a friday night!
So big up to the white lion and the Sheaf.....anyone fancy a pint anytime, gimme a shout.
Cheers, Kev
oh yeah...I dont think the Sheaf does food Tina.

Oh. Must just be the real ale thats good then.
So can anyone reccommend good pub food along the Chezzie Road area?
few pints of real ale....no need for few ;)
I could do with knowing somewhere decent to eat along there actually....anyone anyone?

There's none, really. The Red Lion does do food but it's not particularly great, and the atmosphere certainly isn't. Having said that, I have put away the odd 'Fat Bob' Burger in there, usually hung over on a Sunday.
Apart from that, there's nothing. The takeaways and restaurants along there are all generally okay though (Milans pizza place, Shaan's indian takeaway and La Stanza Romana italian restaurant are all blimmin good actually!)
For decent pub food you're looking at Woodseats I'd say or maybe nether edge. Actually, thinking about it, I'd say decent (i.e. not prepackaged and microwaved to order) pub food is seriously on the decline :(
tinajones 25-10-2004, 14:04 The Dilshad, The Everest and The New India Garden are all fab Indians but theres not much else is there?
The Blue Room is a bit poncey, Portofino is ok, but where can you go for a lazy weekend late lunch or midweek informal evening meal?
Is there a market for it aound there? How about 'In A Nut Shell' opening a cafe?!
Oooooh, Everest, now yr talking. Theres nothing better than a big Friday night out dancing your socks off…..sleep Saturday, go for a few cheeky ones sat night at the Sheaf, then on to Everest…man Im tempting myself now.
Has anyone ever been to the Buffet night at Everest, on er, a Tuesday, that's tonight? I keep fancying this but I've never been yet. Are there many veggie options?

Not been to that for a little while, but yeah, the veggies in our party were happy enough with what was on offer.
Cheers Fantomas…you are a fountain of knowledge on all things Meersbrook! It is much appreciated.
Now, can you tell me where abouts in Meersbrook I can find a pretty young lady that will want to come dancing with me at Urban Goriall this Friday then spend the rest of the weekend chilling in my luxury abode? No?....ack well ;)
