View Full Version : Adam Ant documentary - 17/07/03 XADRIAN 18-07-2003, 15:29 I thought it was a fantastic insight into a very educated and talented man. What you people think? Abdul 18-07-2003, 15:31 Sadly I missed it :( Tell us the best bits - like why he wore make up? XADRIAN 18-07-2003, 15:38 The makeup was part of his image. He was a very artistic man and excelled in art. He suffered from depression from an early age in his life, and nearly took his own life on two occasions. His father was an alcoholic and left his mother when he was quite young. Adam never took drugs or used to drink alcohol. He was stalked by two women, the first was an Italian or Spanish woman who left a cake in his house with a note which said "Get rid of the whore" referring to his then g'friend. He was then stalked again when he came back to Britain. The documentary showed that he is an ordinary working class bloke who is very fragile...it was brilliant Abdul 18-07-2003, 15:43 Very interesting, Xadrian. I do admire the talent and determination of people from difficult backgrounds like this who still go on to be successful. I'm just happy to be plain old me :) RPG 18-07-2003, 15:44 I watched this as well, it really showed you how badly the tabloid media are at reporting  XADRIAN 18-07-2003, 15:45 Why are some of the most talented people in the world the most messed up in the head? any Psychiatrists in da house? I'm sorry to say this, but I get the impression they go hand in hand :( Abdul 18-07-2003, 15:58 Originally posted by RPG I watched this as well, it really showed you how badly the tabloid media are at reporting  Give us an example? (for those of us who are too young to really remember Adam Ant) RPG 18-07-2003, 16:16 Wahhaa Im only 17 and i know how badly he was treated in the media ;) They basically made him out to be a really bad person, but with all that went off in his life its totally understandable I also did media studies so found out quite alot in that aspect, such as some of the tasteless reporting in the falklands war Abdul 18-07-2003, 16:32 Media Studies, eh ;) ;) ;) You mean like the Sun front page 'GOT IM' or whatever it was when the Belgrano was hit? RPG 18-07-2003, 16:50 Originally posted by Abby Media Studies, eh ;) ;) ;) You mean like the Sun front page 'GOT IM' or whatever it was when the Belgrano was hit? yes, that ;) and the "Freddie Starr ate my hamster" things.. Abdul 21-07-2003, 06:31 Originally posted by Phanerothyme "GOTCHA!" Yep, that's the one. Nothing like a bit of neutrality from our friendly pornographer Rupert Murdoch ;) Lou 21-07-2003, 07:49 Originally posted by XADRIAN I thought it was a fantastic insight into a very educated and talented man. What you people think? I watched it too and thought it was a fascinating programme. I also thought it was quite brave of him to be able to talk so honestly about his manic depression and his struggle with it throughout his life. Craig7777 29-06-2006, 00:24 Bet that was good:) O2Academy 29-03-2011, 19:15 Adam Ant and The Good The Mad and The Lovely Posse will be at O2 Academy Sheffield on 24/05/11! http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=7460151#post7460151 |
