Did a quick search which turned up nothing - and might have been out of date anyway! Does anybody know any post boxes within the city centre that have Sunday collections, and at what time? Really need to get something sent off tomorrow!

Don't know of a post box, but you are supposed to be able to post at the big sorting office on Attercliffe.

Sunday collections are only made from the boxes outside post offices. These are around noon. Check the collections info on the box first, as when it has been posted there is no way you will be able to get your letter back. That is Royal Mail ruling. Sunday collections are highlighted in yellow on the info plate in the posting boxes.

Having spent the last 4/5 years working in bars and restaurants including Sundays, why should anybody else get a day off when I have to work?

As it is, I know there are Sunday collections because I used one last week - I just can't remember which box it was. I have a piece of mail that needs to get off pretty quickly, and I forgot yesterday. Get off your high horse, and chill out.

This is true, if you can get out there. The box is emptied more than once on a sunday.

Does it make any difference though? Do they sort and distribute mail on a Sunday, or does it just get saved til Monday anyway?

No idea - but at least it's posted now (the post box on West Street has a 1pm Sunday Collection) and I don't have to worry about forgetting it tomorrow!

I'd assume though, that it gets sorted on Monday morning, as opposed to Monday evening.

To dkhank.

Read and learn!!! - Postal Staff work a 5 day week and do not lose any money!!!! You still have a delivery six days each week, as the sixth day is done by rotation of staff. This could be any day of the week, as staff have their preferred rota. I worked for Royal Mail for 42 years. I have been retired two months. How many years have you done for RM? Where do you now work? According to you they are all taking a day off without pay then. The overtime budget must be through the roof. Thank you for your information. I honestly didn't know, even though I was working there, and doing the absence reports. I will let RM Managers know this too, as they certainly don't know that delivery and distribution staff ought to be working a six day week, because you say so. If you ring the RM Customer Service Helpline on 0845 7 740 740, staff there will tell you how many days delivery staff work each week, and whether Sunday collections are made, and where they are made from. Royal Mail is a 24/7 operation. Then you can apologise to me. Soon you will be telling me that there are two deliveries each day - Monday to Friday, with one on Saturday. In actual fact there is only one delivery per day - Monday to Saturday - Bank Holidays being the exception. Staff have not had a wage reduction because of this either. But then, what do I know!! Thanks.

PS. It's lose money not loose money!! Whatever would your students think of your spelling? A word to the wise:- Please do not kick off unless you are fully aware of the facts. It makes you seem silly, and probably gives people the wrong impression.

No, it is processed and despatched on the Sunday.

Then could it be delivered on the Monday?

I've always thought that posting on the Sunday gave more chance of the letter being delivered on Tuesday than Wednesday but never realised there was an actual chance of it being delivered on the Monday.

I posted a birthday card yesterday (Sunday). She rang this afternoon to say thanks for the card. Honest - no point is telling fibs, as with things like this, one can easily be found out.
