View Full Version : Gleadless Town End Demolition.
Top of Ridgeway Road,Gleadless Town End, blocks of flats are being demolished. Anybody know what is to be built there. Heard it is a skyscraper. Seems very hush hush, or bad planning if future of site not known. Surely someone has heard something.Tets.
Miss_smiley 18-10-2004, 15:00 I asked the same question this weekend to someone who lives on Ridgeway Road. They have not got a clue either, although they have been listening out for any info.
Ask your councillor,or watch this space.I think you are in for a suprise when you find out.Tets.
Tets are you implying that you know what its gonna be? If so why bother making a thread asking if anyone knew.... or maybe I just misinterpreted your post...

O.K. susie, naughty. Have heard a rumour and was quite suprised. Want some confirmation from anyone else. Sorry can't say yet. Do as I suggested. ask a councillor. They are bound to know. By the way, I never said I didn't know. Just wondered if any other Nosey Parkers knew more than me.Bye, tets
WallBuilder 18-10-2004, 16:35 With most building work in the city there are usually plans for it in the town hall planning department. They'll tell you what's going on if you ask them nicely.
I think a luxury apartment block/skyscraper at Gleadless is a bit unlikely.
costessey 19-10-2004, 12:49 I'm selling up in Gleadless, and the reason for knocking down the flats has prompted me to move quicker. The rumour i've heard i wouldn't like to post, but i guess it'll come out anyway!

I can only think of two things....
1. Gleadless is actually on top of a once dormant volcano which has recently started to show signs of activity and possible eruption, killing everything within a 1 mile radius
2. They are planning on housing asylum seakers in the area.

Yet another high-spirited uplifting post from nick2 there....
The flats that are being knocked down, are they the ones you see at the tram stop? If so, GOOD! they looked crap anyway. Maybe the new casino culture will find a base in Gleadless ;)

My reply was to costessey implying some dreadfull thing coming to Gleadless. I'm glad the flats are going they were horrible.
costessey 19-10-2004, 13:19 hmmm! not heard about a volcano before!!
Wallbuilder, yes already contacted Planning. Planning permission sought for erection of Residential dwellings by City Council, but for whom. Kirkby side of Ridgeway Road , land up for Auction soon. NICk2 is brighter than you think. Tets.

Is the land up for auction or has the council put in a planning application?
If it's up for auction how can the council know it's going to win the bidding?
If the council has put in a planning application why would it be up for auction? Unless the council owns the land and is selling it with outline planning consent.
Which is it?
I'm still hoping for the volcano, a return tram ticket to Gleadless is much cheaper than a return flight to Hawaii.
MAX, please note that I specifically said that the land on the KIRKBY side of Ridgeway Road is going up for auction soon!!! There are TWO pieces of land ,-----one for the mentioned Council Residential building and one to be auctioned. O.K. tets
