Did anyone go on those overseas trips.
My Dad thought it was such a lot of money and said I could go if we paid in full before we went, incase anything came up and I couldnt go, and they would not let me do it, so I had to make do with a 4 day trip to London, but it was great fun

Funny enough I can never remember any foreign trips at school in my day, if they were any they were certainly rare.
The only place I remember going was Castleton and Hartly Brook for the day.
I remember a sponsored walk from Totley to Grindleford and a walk over Bradfield with Chalky White.

Remember going on a couple - one to Holland/Belgium and one to somewhere in Germany.
On one trip I remember we were booked into a hotel in the wrong town - Knokke-Heist and Heist-an-Zee both had hotels with the same name but we arrived too late to sort it out. They found rooms for us and out of one of the room windows, across the courtyard, were a bunch of 'ladies' waving from another window. Bathroom facilities were at the end of the corridor and by late evening a somewhat curiously dressed lady was shall we say 'draped' along the handrail en-route.
Of course it is obvious now what sort of a hotel it was but we were blissfully ignorent then. Needless to say we were hastily transferred to the correct place the next morning.
Their was someone with us on that trip - Stewart Scott is a name that rings a faint bell but could be wrong, who used to wake smack on 8:00 every morning with a fit of sneezes.

I remember that damned sponsored walk - by the end of it my knees had siezed up completely and I had to be taken home by car instead of riding the bus.
My knees have never been the same since !

When we went on our London trip, we had boys from another room knocking on the door.
I wouldnt share a bed with anyone and insisted on my own bed, there was a couple of double and singles in the room.
We had 7up, (Lemonade) and had never heard of it then in Sheffield, I presume it is there now.
We went to all the sights, and was a great trip, until some rotten kids I had to pass on my way home from the bus told me my dad had run off with a woman, and I tried not to run all the way home, in case they laughed at me, but he was still there, and he had spent the 4 days redecorating my room and I was so relieved.
I remember I got a new coat to go, a red PVC wetlook coat, they were in fashion then, it would have been the lat 60's.
