Anyone got any idea where I can buy my 5 year old daughter a bridesmaids dress similar to these ones?
http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=X39&p=104&o=1

I'm getting married in July 2008 and we have found the dresses for the adult bridesmaids but not for my little girl! Thanks.

You could have one made or have you tried BHS or ASDA?

no sorry.
we're looking @ the moment and the likes of BHS tend to do little girlie type things with frills and bows.

a seamstress could be a good option for getting one made similar.
does it have to be identical?

The weddings Ive been to that had little bridesmaids tend to have the little ones in different dresses to the big ones.

No not identical, just similar. I've been looking everywhere for pink as white and my daughter would not mix, she would end up black!
Regards to the dressmaking idea, does anyone know a dressmaker?! Thanks!

You could try this ebay shop, I'm sure they do their adult bridesmaid dresses in child sizes.
Both my friend and I had our bridesmaid dresses from this shop and they were excellent.

Hi there,

Quinns of Bawtry may be of interest to you. You can view a variety of dresses online 'quinnsofbawtry' but I would recommend you view in the shop if you can. It may be a decent run from where you live but it could be worth it. There are some pretty wee dresses in the shop, all different colours. It's a nice village too so you could treat yourself to a nice lunch maybe?

Good luck.

Ok, let me just say I don't have a massive experience of attending weddings at all so I'm not sure on wedding etiquette. Basically my friend is getting married next year and has asked me to be her Maid of Honour/Bridesmaid. The thing is, she says that when we go looking for my dress, I have to put some money towards it. I was a little taken aback when she said this as I thought that although it is the dress I will wear, it's her wedding and if she wants me to be Bridesmaid then surely she should pay for it? Am I wrong?

Ginger_Kitty
03-04-2007, 10:22 AM
Personally I paid for my bridesmaid dresses, but then they were less than £100 each. When i was bridesmaid a year earlier i was paid for too.

However, shoes the bridesmaids paid for themselves....

kate55

I paid for my bridesmaid dresses, shoes, flowers and their hair doing. The only thing the paid for was their underware.

It is usual for the bride to pay for the bridesmaid dresses, but whether you tell your friend that is up to you!

Monks
03-04-2007, 11:27 AM
It is actually an old tradition that the bridesmaids paid for their own dresses, however most brides if they can afford it pay for them.
My bridesmaids have offered to pay for their own dresses basically because I cant afford it!!

Do you have a choice of dress? If its something you can wear again its not so bad, although I am getting my bridesmaids dresses. Can you have a more stylish dress (have a look in coast?)

gempud

Thanks for your replies! If it was something I could wear again and would just be from a normal shop, e.g not a wedding shop, then I would happily pay as it would be my item of clothing and of a decent price. However, this is going to be a proper bridesmaids dress. So will probably cost a fair bit, would only be worn once and probably won't even be anything I would pick to wear anyway (I don't do dresses :) ). Hmmm...maybe I'll suggest paying for the shoes and find a way around it that way - otherwise there's no way I can afford to be her Bridesmaid!

I am being a bridesmaid in May. I know the bride is on a tight budget so I have offered to pay for the bridesmaid dress as a wedding present, instead of her having to fork out for the dress and me buying her a present she will never use!! You could try suggesting this. It works best if all the bridesbmaild agree on it though.

When I got married (I'm divorced now) many, many years ago, I paid for my bridesmaids dresses, flowers and head gear. Anything else, they bought.

I was told, although not sure how true it is, that the bride pays for the dresses, if not then the bride buys the bridesmaids a present. I also had a two year old page boy but his mum made all his outfit. He is just over 30 now so it shows how long ago it was. :)

Surely though, if she is expecting you to pay for this dress (that you will probably never wear again) then you should have at least some input as to what dress you buy. If she choses one that you think is far to expensive then just say that, although you like the dress (whether you do or not) it is too far above your budget and that either she picks something different or maybe contributes towards it. Just a thought. Good luck.

I guess its maybe easier in my case but I'm only having one bridesmaid and I'm going to pay for her dress, shoes, whatever we decide in the hair etc. I'm also paying for her to stay in the hotel I'm staying in as well the night before so shes with me in the morning. Shes only 14 so can't make her pay for it and I'm so excited about her being my bridesmaid I only feel it right, and to be honest haven't even thought about her paying for any of it.

When I've been a bridesmaid myself the bride has paid for the dress etc, I think I bought my own jewellry but not the dress and shoes etc.

Can anyone recommend someone to do some alterations to a bridesmaid dress, preferably in Hillsborough? We've now got the bridemaid dress sorted but it will need the length taken up and taken in at the bust, nothing major. Any suggestions?

Can anyone recommend someone who can alter my bridesmaid dress please?

I've just been down to London for my fitting for my friend's wedding which is in a months time and the problem is that its too small on the waist and so needs lettting out, the woman in the shop has said it might need some fabric taken from the hem to make panels down the sides-thanks so much to anyone who can help!

I have myself a bit of a problem.... I'm not sure who to have as my bridesmaids. I know I definitely want my sister as one and my little cousin, but I have a group of really close friends who I am unable to pick between. So do I ask them all to be a bridesmaid (there would be 6 or 7 in total) or just have my sister and my cousin??
Any advise would be much appreciated.

Hi

I would say it depends on the size of your wedding. We got married a few weeks ago and I just had my best friend and our niece but we just got married in the register office and any more would have looked over the top
If you are having a big wedding then 6/7/8/9 and even 10 nowadays is ok.
Hope this helps!!

Claret

Who do you want - honestly - to be your bridesmaids? Are you under pressure to ask your friends or do you want to have them as bridesmaids?

I'm sure if you just wanted your cousin and sister as bridesmaids then your friends would understand. You could just explain that you couldn't choose between your friends and so would have to have them all and then just say that you couldn't afford to do that! It may be that some of your friends disn't want to be bridesmaids after all! Maybe you could give them extra jobs like organising the hen night, or even taking the bidesmaids shopping for their outfits - as long as you brief them first!!

Or you could just ask your friends if any of them do want to be bridesmaids. Ask them to be truthful and explain that you don't mind if they don't. That way you cut the numbers down but you haven't offended anyone by not having all the friends as bridesmaids.

If you want them all, and can afford it, then have them all. It's your wedding. You've got to do what you want to do!!

I have loads of nieces and nephews and I decided not to have any bridesmaids and pageboys .I am having my sister she is 26 as my matron.I have two sons 13 and 11 and didn't want to spend a fortune on bridesmaids if my own two were not doing anything [they refuse to be pageboys as they are too old :hihi:] May have been different if I had a girl though.I think it is YOUR choice if you want loads have them but dont feel obliged or bullied into it.:)

we are getting married in 6 weeks in cyprus and we have 8 bridesmaids,5 pageboys and 5 ushers.haha. at first we were just going to have our children who are both girls and then i wanted my god children but then thought i couldnt have them without having my nieces and cant have mine without my partners!!! and thats when it got silly. we then wanted to include our brothers so then brought in the ushers and 2 of my closest friends are male so included them as our ushers aswell. how we sorted it was we asked the parents of the children if they would all pay for there own outfits. and did the same with the ushers. at the end of the day everyone will buy an outfit to come to the wedding in so why not make it a wedding party outfit. that way you get them all and it hasnt cost you anymore and your pics will look fab!!

Thats a good idea, i can just ask them to buy their own dresses if they want to be a bridesmaid. i'm sure they all would do that, thanks. Think I'll ask them all cos they are all close to me so will be nice to have them all involved!

Someone advised me how to choose my bridesmaids when I got married, they said; In 10years time if you were to look back on your wedding photos, would those bridesmaids in the photos still be around you?

If you don't want as many bridesmaids, maybe just choose a couple of friends, im sure all the rest will understand, or even draw names out of a hat, involve all your mates, make a girly night out of it!

Hi everyone,
well my big day draws ever so closer :o

I am having 2 bridesmaids, one being 6 yrs old and the other being 27. I bought the 6yr olds dress a few months ago and she looks stunning in it. I had to wait to get the other dress as my older bridesmaid was pregnant. She gave birth a couple of weeks ago and I let everything settle down before taking her for her dress. BIG MISTAKE! I took her today and they don't have the dress in her size! I wanted to get her a shortish skirt and a bodice in burgundy. So, I tried getting the skirt in a different colour but keep with the bodice being burgundy, I rang the store (BHS) and she was very helpful and checked the other stores. It seems because it is a very fashionable colour this season they have sold out practically everywhere!!! They think there is 2 in Southhampton and 1 in Nottingham but we wont know until I ring the store tomorrow. I'm so annoyed! I know there was nothing I could do but as always something has to go wrong.
I'm now looking at internet sites for other possibilities, any recomendations would be very helpful.

Thanks

argh what a nightmare! I know the type you mean as I was looking at these with one of my adult bridesmaids, I bought her dress off ebay and its lovely but the bodice doesnt fit! The skirt is fab though so I said we'd get one of those burgundy bodices from BHS. Maybe it wont be happening now!

I managed to get one but had to send for it from Southampton. If you give the Meadowhall store a ring and tell them what you want in what size they will tell you which store has it and you can order it. Beware though it does take 2-3 weeks delivery!

Hi girls, I just recently got married which I am pleased to say went perfectly!!
I now have a major dilemma though - I am due to be maid of honour at my Mum's wedding in January but have just found out I am pregnant.
This will be my 4th pregnancy, but only 3rd to term (fingers crossed) so I will really be showing, and I am also a very large girl. Does anyone know where on earth I can find a maternity dress for a plus size bridesmaid. I'm guessing this will not be easy and I am dreading telling my mum.

I am having 4 bridesmaids dresses and had budgeted £250 per dress because I thought I wanted real bridesmaid dresses from bridal shops etc.

After quite a bit of looking, I actually found evening dresses in Monsoon. Emerald green silk (to match my engagement ring). I asked all 4 girls to go an try them on in their hometowns (they are spread out over the country), they all loved them and I have bought them on-line. £60 each!

PLUS... they all said they would wear them again as they are so lovely.
