Former pre war United centre forward Jock Dodds died 23rd Feb at his home
in Lytham St Annes. He joined United in 1934 at age 19 from Huddersfield
on a free transfer, and was a great signing, scoring 130 goals in 203 appearances. He was a great favourite with United's fans, and was good with both feet and head. He also played for Scotland several times. United transferred him to Blackpool in 1939 for a fee of £10,500,a very big fee in those days, and he continued his prolific scoring for them too. I was an errand
boy for the local Co-op,after school, and one day I delivered an order to a house in Clarke Square, and who should answer the door but Jock himself, who, along with a couple other players, was in lodgings there.
Absolutely made my day!
