Hello everyone:)

bein one of these people who has only just learnt how to connect my digicam to my pc and such  I was wondering if anyone could help me with a bit of a problem..

I'm a student and am receiving some money to buy a new pc for the course, bout £300, and have just been told to 'got to the most reputable shop and get the highest spec pc I can for my money'. Only thing is, I haven't a clue what the different specs mean!!!

I'll be using the pc for a broadband connection to the internet (browsing, few downloads, ect) and also to store all my work. I've looked on the pc world web site and they do some ok packages, the cheapest being about £300, but it says all this stuff in the description that I really don't understand..

I know on the grand scale of things that £300 quid for a pc is nothing, and I shouldn't expect to get a real decent one, but it has to be receipted as I have to send it in to the Uni, otherwise I could just buy a second-hand one.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to look for/where to look?

All advice will be gratefully received!!:D

Go to the Dell website and find something for your budget. They probably offer the best value at the moment, and if you're not likely to be upgrading etc will be a good option.

You could still get a second hand one, there's a place in Chapeltown that does refurbished PCs, with 90 day warranty, & will give you a receipt. From a quick look on their site they have full systems from just over £100, if you give them a ring they always seem to be getting new stuff in...

try ebuyer.
make sure it comes with a monitor & cables in the price, u don't wanna get stung with that one.
some also give you a basic printer inclusive.

like this one , you could then get your monitor and printer at the same time.

such as this one

Remember that it does not come with any software installed (eg Microsoft Office) for your college work. They may try to sting you for another £100 or so to have it installed. You should be able to pick up cheaper or your college may be able to offer you a student deal for it. Check it out.

Steer clear from PC world. When you have steered clear, run away some more.

Here's a good place to start:

The machine at £329 is a good buy, from a company that know's what they are doing.
