I'm a volunteer for RSPCA Sheffield and I've been toying with a fund raising idea for a little while.

I like playing video games and I like drinking lager in pubs. I've always fancied having a go at some of the games I've played on my little TV at home on one of those giant screens that people watch the football on in pubs while having a few beers. I was wondering if I could figure out a way to do this while raising money for a very good cause at the same time.

I have been told that if you can get enough people together, most pubs will let you use their function rooms for free, they make their money over the bar, I know plenty of people that own consoles and games so if this is true, and enough people like the idea too, it should be very easy to organise.

I'm hoping that someone might read this who:

owns or knows of a suitable venue
has some suggestions for the format
would be willing to sponsor the event or donate some prizes
agrees that it is a good idea

Also, I'm knocking on a bit now (I was 30 in January :( ) and am not very up-to-date with what is popular these days but this is what I thought might work:

Golf - lots of people could play at once and it would go well with drinking
Tekken - just because I like it and I would stand a chance of winning and always wanted to see what it would be like with life size characters
Mariokart (on the SNES) - games are fast and it's a lot of fun
Guitar Hero - would go great with drinking and I know someone that is like a machine at it who I would like to see beaten by someone :)

Any feedback would be welcome.

For more information on RSPCA Sheffield - visit their website ( I would post a link but I've not used the forum enough to be allowed :( )
