I used to hate it when a nail stuck up inside your shoe, and you had to limp untill you could find a hobbing foot and hammer to knock it down again ..These modern shoes don't have that problem do they???

I can't stop giggling now ....:hihi: Gangan 01-03-2007, 22:54 We were so poor we used to fight over who would get the biggest bone our Mam had cooked. (We used to ask the butcher for bones for the dog,but the dog only got to smell them!) Royston 01-03-2007, 23:37 OK We had school black plimpsoles so I guess we were better off than the rest of you - although they did get a little wet in the winter! However I well remember asking whoever brought an apple to school to "save us core" and gladly accepted it!!!! LOL Lots of water gone under the bridge since those early Heeley Bank days. Life here in Toronto has turned out just fine, but still have great memories of my own youth, and looking back now wouldn't want to change a thing!! Do most of you feel the same?? Regards to all. Albatross 02-03-2007, 01:23 An you try tellin' the kids today that. They don't belive it Timbuck 02-03-2007, 15:22 OK We had school black plimpsoles so I guess we were better off than the rest of you - although they did get a little wet in the winter! Another thing I hated was "underpants" with legs about an inch longer than your "short trousers" I felt like a right "wally" walking around constantly hitching them up so they wouldn't show...and I also hated the "elastic band garters" that left a painfull purple groove around your legs. Redneck 02-03-2007, 15:23 Early fifties, Mum bought me a pair of those shoes with thick crepe soles ( for bopping in). One day I wore them to work, but the rubber melted on the hot steel floor of the Siemens open-hearth furnaces and I stuck to the plate. I had clogs the next day. My brother had a pair of boots bought for him by great Uncle Johnny as he was the first boy to be born in the whole family. The boots were so heavy on his thin legs they used to spark as he dragged them along. They had segs in the soles, remember segs? hazel saxon51 03-03-2007, 12:24 Another thing I hated was "underpants" with legs about an inch longer than your "short trousers" I felt like a right "wally" walking around constantly hitching them up so they wouldn't show...and I also hated the "elastic band garters" that left a painfull purple groove around your legs. Oh the memories. Not only the 'skivvies', but half a dozen conkers, ten or so marbles, a few 'fossils', tuppence worth of spice and a Dinky toy or two in each pocket made the linings hang about a foot below the turn-ups. Short trousers with turn-ups. Now that's something we don't see often now-a-days. :D pet-walkiz 03-03-2007, 15:27 when we were kids we used to buy segs and put them on our soles just so we could kick the ground and cause a spark. we ruined more shoes and stubbed more toes by missing the sole and the seg completely :hihi: flyer 06-03-2007, 13:55 did you ever fight over who got the rabbits head so you could pick the brains out or who got to scrape the rice pudding dish out yum yum poppins 06-03-2007, 14:03 My Grandad was always a greedy old devil, my Grandma would cook him a big fried breakfast every day, then he would grab her plate and mop up her leftovers with a slice of bread, never asked her if she'd finished eating, he couldn't wait for his cuppa to cool off, he'd pore it into his saucer and gulp it down, Greedy !!! Timbuck 06-03-2007, 16:19 did you ever fight over who got the rabbits head so you could pick the brains out or who got to scrape the rice pudding dish out yum yum Yes Gran always gave me the "Bunnies head" she said it would make me brainy..It didn't...I used to pull out the teeth out of it...I was amazed how long the incisors were..I should have been a Dentist. sweetdexter 07-03-2007, 01:21 I used to hate it when a nail stuck up inside your shoe, and you had to limp untill you could find a hobbing foot and hammer to knock it down again ..These modern shoes don't have that problem do they??? Do any of you old ones have crooked toes through wearing shoes that were to small. I remember for a time the only footwear I had was a pair of wellies which were way to small. I found a pair of football boots, pulled out the studs, cut off the strap that used to be on the instep and gave them a coat of black lead. New boots! This was 1950 flyer 07-03-2007, 15:56 believe it or not this is a true story,My granmother sent my brother to school in a pair of ladys high heel shoes,it was pre war and times where hard, but she was just not that poor just hard & mean. 'Ay up Timbuck you were just years ahead of your time!! From todays paper, quote : " New York menswear designer Michael Bastian makes chopped-off corduroy pants fhat reveal a couple of inches of boxer shorts ' It really took a lot of engineering to make the boxers hang just right, so that they look cool,' he says of the shorts, which sell for $425". How did you engineer yours - you were sitting on a gold mine. |
