Ann* 27-02-2007, 22:14 Click on Search, type in Norton, and see what results you get. Get rid, and download something much better from the list in the link in my siggie. The_DADDY 28-02-2007, 08:34 The last decent norton was NIS2003, since then they have all been junk and not worth the time or money. Get NOD32 for your av and a freebie like Zone Alarm or Comodo for your firewall. Space 28-02-2007, 14:12 I too hate Norton software because it is so bloated now but, Go to 'Start', 'Control Panel', 'Add Remove Programs'. There you will find a list of Symantec/Norton software including Live Update. Click on them one by one and click remove. You may have to delete them is a certain pattern but it will tell you how to do that if needs be. There maybe a slight chance you need a removal tool off the Symantec site but if your just upgrading, this shouldn't be needed. When its all gone, insert your new Norton CD and follow the instructions. rosie 28-02-2007, 20:32 Thank you space for the advice but for some reason it still wont work,i deleted norton software and live updates.Im well and truley stuck it just wont work. Ann* 28-02-2007, 20:45 I know you've paid for it but, if I were you, I'd give up with it. It sounds as though you haven't been able to completely remove your original version of Norton, which is why Symantec (Norton's parent company) produced the Norton Removal Tool (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039). As I said in another thread, it shows how much faith Symantec doesn't have in it's subsidiary's product, if they've had to produce a separate removal tool. It's a shame that you've probably wasted your money on this, when there is better free software available ~ see the list in the link in my siggie. Can you put on here exactly what the error is saying? Any error code? Is it Windows that is refusing to install it or the program itself? Bago 01-03-2007, 13:01 It's funny how others are having the same problem. I myself have just about managed to get my laptop online now. I had problem activating the Norton Internet Security 2006 software. I was supposed to activate the existing package which was on the laptop, but it expired before I did it. I got an upgrade disk with a product key too. So I uninstall everything that was on the laptop itself by using the disk, then reinstalled and activated it through its provided tool, which guided me through every step. There was a bit of a disclaimer document that came with the software package which said that the product can only be activated within 15 days of installation. After this date, you need to contact helpdesk. So I just uninstall and reinstall again, hoping to get that activation process back up. It did! All I can say is.. do you know what was your old software on the PC, and what is the new software that you are trying to install? Does the two actually match? Or is it an upgrade? Your new Norton 2007 disk should have a manual with it. Have a look and see what it says. It'll help others to help you, if you provide the following details: - your operating system e.g. Win98, or WinXP etc... - the title of your old Norton software - the title of the new Norton software - Does the new Norton Software have a product key on the envelope? Actually, do you have a disk for the Norton 2006? (Is it the Norton Internet Security 2006 package?) I have one of these disks, and on it, is a removal tool. So if you want to install anything new, or require for the old copy to be removed completely. (i.e. from the registry level too), then maybe it is worth your while to insert the disk and remove it that way. My initial thought as to delete it through Control Panel, but... if it's a bit of a tough cookie, then use the disk provided, where possible. |
