View Full Version : Old lady knocked to floor in TJHughes friday
muckynees 26-02-2007, 18:00 i am posting this on behalf of a friend as she is visiting her elderly mother in hospital at the mo, her mother was knocked off her feet in tj hughes at tea time on friday resulting in her suffering some sort of spine injury and being kept in hospital.
from what she said there were two women (younger than her) rushing around in the store, they both barged into her, not looking where they were going and basically knocked her to the floor and her walking stick flew across the store, one of the women stopped briefly to help her husband pick her up then carried on legging it to her friend, my friend would like to say thanks to the staff in tj hughes (if any of you are reading this) who called the ambulance for her mum and looked after both her parents until they got there.
she would also like to say a big SHAME ON YOU! to the two ladies who were involved (you know who you are!):suspect:

Nightcaster 26-02-2007, 19:50 About a month a go an elderly gentleman fell down the stairs outside the shop where I work, he hurt his knee and had to go to casulty. It's a shame when things like this happen, people need to be more careful, If the man behind him had watched where he was going he might not have fallen.
It's a shame this wasn't caught on CCTV - couldn't it be classed as some sort of assault?
miniminch 26-02-2007, 20:49 It was!! This is me (http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0210980301/new/spiderman2.jpg) being flung through the store and landing in a string vest!:suspect:
muckynees 26-02-2007, 21:14  well done miniminch, glad ya got the last pair of those pants though because my guy was gonna go and buy some
:loopy: some people. hope shes ok
Nigel Womersle 27-02-2007, 01:31 The fact that they were rushing around the store should have alerted the security staff well before they careered into the lady. She may not have been knocked to the floor if these two 'ladies' had been stopped in their tracks. It's the same everywhere- noboby is bothered, and it is wrong!

It would have to be proved that there was intent. It sounds like an accident to me. Hope she is feeling better now.
I'm not surprised this has happened in tjhughes.
It's full of people pushing and shoving, people with no manners at all.
Hope she's making a good recovery.
muckynees 27-02-2007, 20:17 my friend has told me today that her mother (who is elderley and frail anyway) will be kept in hospital in some sort of spinal injuries unit and will stay there until she gets better basically, it is a shame because this could take months and her elderley husband will be home alone aswell, i just cant help but wonder if the two ladies involved have even given her a second thought! my friend also asked me to say thankyou to all your kind remarks so
THANKYOU!!!!
Don`t mean to be funny, was this some sort of diversion tactic to keep staff busy? whilst the two in question, or an accomplice stole some items! I hope the elderly lady in question makes a healthy recovery, and gets well soon. The mind boggles when this sort of thing happens.

fluffy&pink 28-02-2007, 09:37 Your lucky they called an ambulance in there!!! I am boycotting them, as before xmas an elderly lady fell really heavily to the floor, and being a keen student nurse that i am, i ran at the speed of light to see if she was ok. It was clear she had a break (the bit of bone poking out gave it away to me anyway) but this foolish and very rude member of staff said he didnt think she needed an ambulance, and tried to help her to her feet. After much insistence, and threatening to call an ambulance myself on my mobile, one was called. By which time a huge crowd had formed and a nurse i recognised from work said it was the right thing to do, this same rude member of staff said he would need to take my details, as the company didnt want to be accussed of wasting ambulance time. So, by the sound of things, your mates mum was lucky they called her one!
I hope she gets well soon, and her poor husband is getting along at home all alone.

Cheap shop - cheap tactics.

Obviously, in this case an ambulance was needed. However we're always being told in the press that we should only call 999 in a serious emergancy. Maybe that's why the staff member was reluctant to call for help? Although when I worked in retail we had a policy to call an ambulance if there was even the slightest doubt, because it would cover us if someone tried to sue the store.
I remember once calling an ambulance for an old woman whos husband had slipped in the car park, banged his head on the concrete and was bleeding. She insisted we shouldn't waste the paramedics time and said if we helped her carry him to the coffee shop so he could have a cup of tea and a sit down, it would probably be alright!
