Anybody just seen the five-plane formation fly high over the City from West to East?
Got a great view of them from up here in Stannington.

Certainly wasn't the 'Red Arrows' - the planes were too large and flying way too high for them.

Any ideas of what they were doing? Filming an advert perhaps?

I saw them.
I thought display team at first, but then thought they were a bit too high.

Must be military to be in a line, though. Possibly just on their way between bases.

Yep I saw it from here in Holmewood, Chesterfield. I was hoping they were taking Alan Knill & the rest of the Rotherham team away!

The word on the street is that this was a formation of 5 X F15's routing from POL (Pole Hill) to TNT (Trent). These are both VOR's (radio nav beacons) situated on the moors towards Preston (POL) and near Carsington Water (TNT). The path between the two takes them not too far from us.

They were 5 x USAF F15 Eagles returning to Lakenheath in Suffolk from the USA, 15 minutes behind this formation was a KC135,which had refuelled these jets over the Atlantic.Hope this helps.

There's a real air display tomorrow for those in the know... but I'll post the details on another thread. Some of you will know how to find it... some won't :)

I am surprised that these aircraft have mode-S as the military are usually exempt. Even if they do have Mode-S then surely it doesn't tell you their destination does it?
