Thinking of buying a house. Looking around Walkley, Stannington and Hillsborough. Any advice on these area, esp. Walkley or Stannington? What do you prefer if you have a choice?

Forget Walkley - too many students - Stannington is a ballache if you miss the last bus

I'd go for Hillsboro, if your after a terrace.

Try looking for one of the biggies off middlewood road - Carlton Road through to Harris Road. Lived on em both and would move back in a flash!

And yes I've lived at Walkley too (briefly)

Let us know what sort of house you're after, price range, proximity to schools etc. and we will probably be able to give you better advice.

PS I've just moved from Walkley to Stannington and both are OK.

Walkley full of students - Stannington full of Chavs - take your pick and go for Crookes - a better class of student.

& shirecliffe - few years back bus drivers wouldn't even pass through it!

The flats are the worse part and now even more so there guna scrap the school fields and build refugee houses that will lower the tone

Granted, down the road from me is an area of Shirecliffe I try not to walk through after dark but my immediate vicinity is perfick.

Do you know 1/2 of Stannington is full of OAPS in special accomodation and as far as i am aware no student accomodation
and most people that live here are people who have lived in stannington most of their life in the area or some part of there life on this ere hill! and that is a fact!

No-one is having a go at you darling. But as with most places Stannington has its fair share of undesirables, something you cant deny.

That is not to say that Fulwood is squeaky clean or indeed Shirecliffe.

But this thread is not about those areas is it?

We moved from stannington to walkley and much prefer where we are now, thankyou very much!

Anyway, to answer the original question, I'd say Stannington was nicer. Walkley is hilly and parts of it seem very "industrial" in terms of the housing, whereas Stannington seems to be a more "up and coming" area (and becoming part of Sheffield Hallam will help this), and is also semi-rural and on the edge of the Peak District. Depends on your own taste though I suppose.
