My dog, Jasper is getting castrated tomorrow.

As a first-time dog owner, I have got no idea what to expect.

Will he be poorly?
Will I be able to take him for a walk? If not, how long do I have to wait?
Will he have pain killers to take?

:help: Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

He will be groggy when you go to pick him up, but he won't be poorly. He'll come round soon enough and most dogs are generally ok (although he might walk funny for a while).

You can have his lampshade collar off while you're with him but keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't lick the stitches.

The vet will tell you when the best time is to take him for a walk as I'm not entirely sure and I'm not sure about the pain killers either, but, a piece of advice: don't give him enough pain relief to make him pain free... he'll want to go out for a walk and play and run about if he can't feel the pain. I know it sounds callous but if he's still a bit uncomfortable it'll be much easier to keep him still!

I'm not really sure about the boys so I'll let someone else elaborate!

Do you think he will be ok to have his car harness on when I go to pick him up?

I feel so sorry for him, he is laid in his bed with a really sad look on his face as if he knows what is going to happen.

I'm sure that he'll be fine with his car harness. If it's the same type I'm thinking of, it doesn't go anywhere near that area anyway...

You know deep down you're doing the right thing and he hasn't got a clue what's going on, he just knows that his mum's worried about something :(
I've known a few dogs that have been neutered and have got over it so quickly you'd be amazed! You'd think that it'd affect them for a lot longer but in hardly any time at all, they're back upto their usual tricks!

Alfie was done a couple of months ago. He was groggy when we picked him up and wanted to sleep all that evening and night.

He was allowed lead exercise untill his stiches were out. Starting with a very short walk and we did notice he tired easily for the first few days.

After the first couple of days the hardest thing trying to stop him running around like a mad thing with our other dog.
