Went there on Friday night, £3 for a 440ml can of red stripe, and my mate reckons he got charged £7 for a double vodka redbull - this seems totally unreasonable. It's the first time I've been there in years, I guess it must have been taken over by someone as it's been cleaned up quite a bit, but still mental drinks prices...

I was charged £3.50 for a can of Red Stripe at Gatecrasher. OK it's a club (as opposed to a bar) but still a complete rip-off!

I was also in the Casbah on friday night, went in with my mate, and as we got to the bar, noticed a poster stuck on the optics saying 'vodka and mixer £1.50, double 2.50, Jack daniels and mixer 2.50, double 3.80 so I asked for a double of each, at which point the girl behind the bar noticed the poster and took it DOWN! then explained that for two doubles, the ACTUAL price would be 12 quid!!!!!

my advice, stay sober!

Should go to the Dove and Rainbow on Hartshead square - better prices AND better music.

Bar staff are friendlier too

Yes, I've noticed this about the Casbah too, I like the place but the drink prices are just outrageous.

Pubs can only charge high prices as long as people pay them

That's why I always aim to have a skinful BEFORE I get in there.

Thats terrible !! I was once in a pub in Barnsley, and I ordered my favourite beer,Budweiser. The barman said " Its £4:50 a bottle, do you still want one ?" I turned it down , and the pub is now closed.

I used to work with girl from Essex who was always most entertained by northern grumblings about bar prices.. If you want cheap prices - why dont you just go to Nettos and then go to the park? was her somewhat harsh view on these matters...

(BTW I was at the Fridge in Brixton, London - a well known dance club - five years ago and a mate got charged £16 for two double vodkas - he looked clearly shocked and the bar girl just looked pityingly at the cheapskate yokels... God knows how much it'd be today.. )

The bar in the McDonalds hotel is a LOT more expensive than that.

In the ranking of bar prices you've *generally* got

Netto > Supermarket> offy > local > town pub > club > restaurant > hotel bar

For the Gay crowd, Club Xes and Dempseys charge around the £3 mark per pint for quality lager, although they do have cheap drinks promos on certain nights.
Club Xes is effectively my local, as I meet my special friends in there, and no matter how expensive the drink, I'd probably still go, but just drink less!!!

Doesen't the Casbah have special drink offers on some nights?
