The council have various rangers, some of which look after allotments. Have you found them to be good or bad? I heard that some of them have been spotted sleeping in their vans*:hihi: . I think they are there to help us and will clear allotments for you if you ask and can also assist in other tasks. Are they a good use of our money and what should they do about the problem of vandalism?
If you see one ask them where I can find some horse radish as I am still looking.

There is only one allotment ranger, and he only works on certain allotments.
So long as it is a lunch or break period I can,t see any problem in him or any body else having a nap in the van. I do it all the time. In fact I have great dificulty getting through the day without a cat nap at lunch time. Maybe it's my age. :hihi:

Bob the ranger helped me get into the greenhouse and shed when I took over my plot, by removing the enormous padlocks. He was very helpful and cheerful, but confessed to not having much knowledge about plants / veg. He offered to strim the allotment for me when he saw the state it was in - I didn't take him up on his offer, but I think you can arrange it via Sarah if required.

Bob the Ranger is not employed by the Allotment Office, his original post was paid for by a grant that was secured by the Sheffield Allotment And Leisure Gardeners Federation, however that funding ran out some time ago and for the last year his post has been funded by an NRF grant - due to the nature of NRF funding he is only able to work in a specified area at the moment, however he does try to help the allotment officer out as much as possible if his time allows. His current post is monitored by a panel made up of the ranger service, the allotment officer and reps from the federation.
Hope this is helpful

I deal with the Ranger service for Friends of High Hazels Park, and I think they provide an excellent service, mainly dealing with parks and woodlands. Our permanent ranger in High Hazels does a great job for us.See www.sheffield.gov.uk/out--about/parks-woodlands--countryside/ranger-service for full details of what they do.
Wilkinsons at Crystal Peaks had some horseradish in today.

I think they do a pretty good job.

Especially when they get sprayed with dog dirt whilst strimming.

That was his excuse and he's 'sticking' to it.

Hi Kim,

Do you know what area he is based in at the moment?

Untill the end of March Bob will be working on Ouse Rd and Woodhouse sites, from April if NRF has been secured the proposed area of work will include High Wincobank, Hinde House, Hinde House Lane, Morley St and Old Haywoods.
