What's a MADRESSA?

That link reveals nothing...is it correct?
A MADRESSA is some religious Mosque I think, ISlamic in origin. Not sure, perhaps an expert will correct me but I am sure it is something ISlamic and connected with religious activity.
It is an Arabic word meaning school. I imagine the planning application is for an Islamic school.
It is probably as religious as the CofE school on Psalter Lane.

This has indeed now fallen through, I believe a father is buying the property to allow his son and friends that study at the Sheffield University to rent it out from him.
