What do people think of this?

Half the bus station is being pulled down to make way for an 'e-campus'.

The bus station has only been open about 12 years (unlike the former 'temporary' building which stood for 60 years!) but has been direly underused...

Who do we hold to account for the waste of money?

And has anyone heard if they have prospective tenants for said campus, or will it end up going to the Uni for a tenner?

If half the bus station isn't being used there seems little point in hanging on to it. May as well use the land for something useful.

What the hell is an e-campus anyway? :~

I think the uni might be involved with it somehow, but as for actual tenants, i'm not sure. BT seem to have stake in it though...

That document implies it's already there.

"Sheffield e-campus is one of the most technologically advanced business sites in Europe, adjacent to Sheffield’s
two university campuses. From start-ups and growing businesses through to large international companies, the
e-campus is attracting dynamic, high-growth, high technology, knowledge based companies to South Yorkshire."

The curved buildings look ok though.

It's Business Speak (BS) for "Offices for let with Broadband Internet Access".

There's a limit to how technologically advanced an office can be. I suspect that the offices available in the e-campus will have the folliwing technologically advanced features:

4 walls

A door

Some windows

Desks and chairs

I suspect that the e-campus will be demolished in 12 years time to incorporate a new supertram stop!
I also suspect that the inconvenience to bus passengers is the last consideration in this development.

I used to live in Fitzalan Square and walked past the bus station to uni every day. It has never been that busy and i'm sure the downsized station can accommodate all the services it did before.
