I've got a plot on the Heeley and Meersbrook site. It backs on to Carr woods which is very nice. However... the proximity of trees also affords squirrels (if only they were red) an excellent viewing plaform to see what lovelies are growing in our plot.
It must be like nipping down to Harrods for them. Last summer I went to pick some strawberries and found five (obese and very smug) squirrels sat on my strawberry patch (having flattened the bird netting) munching their way threw the lot. To really rub it in they ran off carrying strawberries in their mouths .. pesky things.
Has anyone else had this problem? I've never has a good strawberry crop because of them. I wouldn't mind if we could negotiate a 50 - 50 split but they don't seem up for it. They've also stripped my sweetcorn plants. Has anyone found a good way of stopping them? I don't want to go the the trouble of caging.
Any suggestions (other than grow elsewhere..)
