Hi there
I'm new to this group, but have been on Sheffield Forum for a while.
I'd just like to ask if anyone knows of a method for joining pure wool - my sis is an expert knitter and told me you could rub the ends together, but I've tried it and can't get it to join properly.
She's away working, and I wondered if anyone else knew about this method.
The yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, Flames.
Ta!
Hi, welcome to the group  .
This (http://www.domiknitrix.com/howtos/spliceyarn.cfm) is the method I've seen done before, though I haven't tried it myself.
And this might also help, the delightfully named spit-splicing (http://morcatknits.typepad.com/spitsplicing/) :) .

Hello and welcome too! Is it too untidy or to knot at the beginning of a row and then sew in? That's what I do with all my work, I haven't tried fixing both wools together. Could they possibly come apart?

Thanks to all who have replied. I think it's spit splicing - yum!
I'm going to have a go.
I can't really tie a knot as I'm knitting a sock and can't join in at the end of the row, cos there int any!!!
Thanks also for the welcome. I'm going to be posting here regularly.
BTW recently inherited a yarn stash that included 13 1oz balls of very old 100% wool crepe (Fontein Crepe I think) - and was wondering what to use it for. It's a beautiful Royal Blue which really isn't my colour (I'm a bit gingery!!!) so I can't wear it around the face.
Any ideas? Apart from socks???!?!?!

Skein it and dye it. You could go to dark blue or purple easily enough (although purple with ginger, probably not) and it would probably go dark green. You could still then use it for socks but then you'd have some unique hand dyed yarn.
