There's a lady in Hillsborough who does alterations, I think it's PJ Fashions, or something like that. She works from home.
She altered a ball gown of mine, and was really quick too! I wish I could sew...

I need my wedding dress altering. The bottom half from the wasit down is fine but the top half, which has bones around it, is too big. Does anyone know anywhere or anyone that can alter it for me? :help:

Would anyone be able to tell me roughly how much wedding dress alterations cost?

I'm really tempted to get a dress off the internet as they are cheaper, but if it's going to cost over £100 to have it altered to fit perfectly, then that kinda defeats the object doesn't it!

Hello girls..
Just have a little question.. I've bought my wedding dress from Berketex, its called shanessa and very beautiful.
They are charging £160 for alterations, which I think is a bit steep.. Although it only needs taking up it is trimmed with lace and so would prob be quite a bit of work.. I just wanted to know if the price is a steep as I think it is?? any advice would be great..
Thanks Annie

I think it is steep.I had looby lou's mom alter my dress and I definately recommend her.She had a big job to do with my dress taking up 10 layers of chiffon and she removed the bottom ribbon , replaced some of the detail on the skirt that she had removed from the bottom. She was also very quick. It was a lot cheaper than your quote.

I've heard good things about looby lous mum too, and i'm having mine altered by tricia in ecclesfield. lovely lady and shes charging me £40-£60 to take the dress up and adjust the bodice a little. My dress is trimmed with marabou at the bottom so it means taking that off and replacing so quite a fiddly job.

Hi,
Just reading your post.
I'm currently living in Canada and I worked freelance in the South Yorkshire area for several Bridal Stores.
That price is extremely steep but in line with what a lot of shops will charge you.
If you contact seamstresses direct you will find the price more reasonable. I would charge around £35 for side seams.
I'll be back for the whole of November if that's any good to you!

I am buying my wedding dress as a sample. Currently it fits perfectly, just needs hem taking up an inch or so. But as I dont get married till next August I might need more doing nearer the time.

Can anyone reccommend an alteration service? The shop I am buying from do offer a package, but as its in Brighton I'd rather not have to travel down there lots!

Thanks in advance! :)

A lady called Trisha did my alterations and was very good, but as it was last August I got married I can't find her number, she works from home at Parson cross/Ecclesfield, think she's done a few other ladies dresses on here too. Her prices and service are very good.

If you ring La Bella Brides at Chapletown they will def have her number :)

Hi Weenie I have the number for a seamstress, please pm if you want it.

I am not sure if La Bella will give out Tricia's number anymore as they now do all alterations in-house. (I could be wrong though!!)

Hi there, we alter bridal gowns so you are more than welcome to book and bring your dress through for us to look at. We charge depending on the amount of work involved so it's difficult to quote a price until we see the bodice.

Hello everyone,

I will have a wedding dress in the next week i am normally a size 12 but am pregnant and will be about 28 weeks when i get married at the end of May this year. It fits everwhere bust downwards but needs tightening round the top bust area is all. Can anyone do this for me and how much would it cost? The dress is £100 so any silly prices would totally defeat the object. A pin would even keep it together but is definately not ideal. :help:

Thanx everyone

Just 3 months before my wedding i found out i was pregnant, becasue of this i needed more space in my dress, so at the time i was living in Doncaster and didnt have much money to have it done at a wedding shop.
my boobs changed shape and also my belly so i needed alot doing to it.
I was walking around the 'corn exchange' indoor market at donny and saw a stall what deal with alterations etc i asked about it and she asked me to bring my dress in, so i did, i got taken into a back changing room and she took measurements, ans she only charge me £20, it needed a patch at the back nr the zip and it needed the boob area reshaping.

Worth a look and a trip, its a market stall in the indoor market at the old corn exchange, its downstairs in the middle of the market. I hope this helps.

Try Tracey's in Ecclesfield, across road from the big church, on Church Street,
She's brilliant, she was a wedding dress maker before she set out on her own, you won't go wrong!

Thanks Lady Star. I have had to buy the dresses from John Lewis in Cambridge because that was the only shop that stocked all three. They said they didn't do alterations, but I'll give the Sheffield branch a ring if they do alterations. Thanks. Mxx

I went to see Tricia last night with my dress!

What a lovely woman, went in and felt like I had known her for years.

I get married on the 4th September and she said my dress will be ready for the 28th August.

There is a lot of detail on the bodice part of my dress and also down the side edges so it won't be easy and she is altering the length. £85.

I only paid £160.00 for the dress so I think this is a fantastic quote for the work she has to do.

I can also recommend Aphrobridal if you want a lovely cheap dress.!

Hi all

I have a custom made wedding dress that I ordered too long and I need it taking up as well as maybe adjusting to fit me slightly (it is a corset-back and so far I have had no one to help me do it up so can't say if it definately needs doing or not but maybe). I wed in August and would want the length sorting sometime in the next month or so. Thanks!
