Hello!

I'm getting married in Harrogate on 26th but need to get waxed, eyelash tint and get my hair dyed/highlighted here within next couple of weeks.

Can anyone please advise me of where is good?

I went to Poseurs to get my eyebrows waxed last month but she burnt my eyelid and it was a bit red for a while so I don't want that!
Plus when I got waxed before on my bikini line, I got white heads so any tips to prevent that would be really helpful too. They used tea tree wax, I used tea tree oil after etc but came up with loads. Thank you. :)

Your eyebrows are bound to be red after youve had them waxed, its nothing to do with the person doing it incorrectely, although if she burnt you, I can see why it put you off. Make sure you leave it a couple of days before the wedding so the redness will have gone for definite.

The skin was peeling off for about 3 days and it was an obvious burnt patch where the redness didn't go down for about a week. Not nice but I've been there several times before with no problems. I'd just be worried it was the same person but I didn't take much notice of what she looked like unfortunatly.

Just really need a hair colouring place. I've only had my hair cut in Sheffield and never dyed so if anyone can recommend anywhere I'd be very greatful.

Does anyone do/can anyone recommend a professional wedding make-up artist who is located in Broomhill or who would travel to Broomhill??

The makeup would be for the bride (me!) and my mum and godmother. The wedding is in May at the Botanical Gardens so we'd be looking for quite natural makeup.

If you do hair as well that would be great too!

Thanks for you help - feeling in a bit of a panic!

i paid someone to come to my home and they cost £350 ,had them in about a week and give me really bad headaches so i had 2 take them out .wot a waste .then i saw some clip in ones on ebay made from human hair cost me £55 for a full head and there great you can wash them strighten and dye them and you cant even feel them in your hair and no headaches :) :D :D :D :D

you can buy the clip in extensions from xtra...its in the oasis at meadowhall...i bought some and sewed the clips in myself. I'm not that good at putting them in so take them to my hairdreesser when ever i go out. i wouldn't have extensions in if i were you as they really damage your hair.

I'm sorry but why do you want to have hair extensions just for a wedding? Are you not the person your other half fell in love with regardless of your hair length?

Go with your normal hair - do you really want your memories of your partner on your wedding day to be a startled look? :)

hair extensions can be really subtle you know! They give weight to your hair and help sustain styles. Im not talking the wig look you know!

If you choose Belle for your wedding you will be garenteed a friendly one to one service unlike any other currently avilable in the whole of the north of England. Makeup has been all I have ever wanted to do for as long as I can remeber, now I am 26 and at the age where all my friends seem to be getting married and calling upon me to help them with beauty regimes and makeup tips, I realised that there is a lack of this type of service in Sheffield, this is the reason that I have left behind my day job and put all my efforts into
Belle... Professional Makeup Artistry.

Belle... Professional Makeup Artistry is much more than just a bridal makeup service, with nine pamaper parties to choose from to suite ages four to 104! Polly came to our house this week for my makeup and hair trial and I can't recommend her enough! She somehow worked out exactly what I wanted even though I was absolutely rubbish at describing it - and I was really happy with the result. Plus she is a really nice person as well.

Really looking forward to her coming to do the real thing!!

I had a lady booked for my original wedding and she didnt turn up, even swtiched her mobile off as I kept ringing her. She never did do the trial thing so I guess had I known that most do I would have found someone else.

I really didnt think she wouldnt turn up, thankfully my sister dealt with it but my hair make up and nails didnt look a thing like I wanted, bless her she had a go though.

Glad you guys are having a better time of it, I am pretty nervvy about booking it for my renewel, going to keep an eye on this thread. xx

I've done a quick search and couldn't find a thread that was suited to my problem.

Basically I'm getting married next month and my nails are short and quite scruffy.

I hate having long nails and I don't want anything semi-permanent (as long as they last about a week). However I do want something professional looking.

Any ideas? Cost is not an issue. So if people advise I go and have gels done and then get them removed, I don't mind. I'd have a french manicure for the big day.

Also if people have good experiences of any salons in the city centre that also do pedicures, would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hi spicey, i had tips put on my nails for my big day. They last approx 1-2 weeks, you can buy some gel/liquid to soak them off if you want them off sooner.
I had a french manicure finish, then on my wedding ring finger I had a heart shape sprayed into the white tip, and a tiny diamante in the centre. It was a nice touch.
Unfortunately the woman who did mine is no longer in sheffield, but there are plenty of nail salons around who will offer the same kind of thing.

Can't really advice, apart from the suggestion of a French Manicure too. What I do remember from talking to my cousins who did get theirs done is, to really get rid of it sooner after you're done with the wedding. Cos the nail starts to grow underneath it. Also, do choose one that does not strip off too much of the base. I can't remember which method is better now.

Anyhow, the likes of Virgin Active does have a wedding package. It may have French manicure in there. I know there is also a specific nail place on West St. I'm not sure how good they are. There is also another nail place in Meadowhall, near M&S. Hope that helps.

Hey, congratulations by the way! :)

Thanks astronaut77, that sounds ideal for me. Just need to find a place in Sheffield (that comes recommended). If you've got time before the big day, you could go to a couple of salons and test them out. In my experience, the big salons aren't as good as the independent small boutiques. The lady I went to worked in a small beauty salon in Handsworth - I only discovered her because I saw the sign as I drove past one day. Might be worth just trying a couple of local ones in your area (they are cheaper too!).

Funny that you should say that but the real reason why I don't like long nails is a teacher I had many many years ago who taught me computer skills in secondary school. Her nails were very long and well looked after but they grew at a 90 degree angle(almost) to her finger, straight up and used to freak us out. Since I work using a computer only, I'm scared that it will happen to me......

Spicey, I'm a nurse so my nails are not very glamerous due to all the hand washing and alcohol rubs.

I started using diamond strength formula about a month before my wedding. I reapplied it every couple of days and it gave my nails enough strength to grow to a reasonable length.

I had a french manicure on the morning of my wedding and they looked lovely, and I was very proud that they were all my own!

No, no, I don't mean whether it looks good or not. It's the removal part which you need to be aware of, cos it can cut away your base layer, and it may not grow again! Not wanting to scare you, but my cousin did show me what happened to her nails after the wedding, and she had it on for a little too long. Even though it was recommended for her to do so.

For my daughters wedding in December we are visiting Rain at Birdwell - 2 mins from the M1 roundabout!.

They do all sorts of packages including beauty treatments and make up. They are happy to show you around and are very friendly.

They have an area where you can relax and have a glass of bubbly whilst you wait for pampering.

why not try different things on yourself
a couple of weeks before.
no one knows your face as much as you
and you know what suits you best.
dont use alot of makeup

My personal advice is to speak with the MUA first and see what they can offer for you. Ask for a trial - without committing yourself to them for the big day.

Ask to see photo's of work they have already done.

A good MUA will have a list of questions for you too - to find out what you are after on the day and should be able to do what you ask for. If you dont know what you want you should get a few suggestions from the MUA and I always offer a few trials to get it right.

If you need any more advice please feel free to PM me

Hi - I wasn't able to attend the jumble on the 9th, but are you still able to provide contact details for your makeup lady?

I spoke to my usual hairdressers this morning about wedding hair, and she said she's willing to do it, providing the boss will allow her to leave the salon so she can come to my home :) . Does anyone know any good websites for hair designs cos I'm not 100% sure what I want and have to go in for a trial. The only ones I found feature quite frankly scary looking models with 'perfect' cardboard hair lol, and the designs tend to be a bit elaborate.

Yeah I agree with you, and why do are all the wedding up do's have to be scraped back. . . .not a flattering look unless of course you look like one of the model's.
I have been looking for a while honeyb even though I don't get married until June 09, just want to get it sorted. . .I would like something romantic, perhaps loose curls taken up. . .I know what I want but getting it is a different matter!
Please let me know if you find any good mags or web-sites as I think I have exhausted both at the mo :(
Good Luck

Did anyone who booked a make-up artist pay their deposit at the time of the booking? I've asked my hair & make-up lady for the invoice twice and it never arrives. I havn't been able to get hold of her by email of phone and I'm starting to worry....she is part of a company....so it's odd that no-one ever seems to be about.

It's nearly 3 weeks since I last spoke to her.
