The Telegraph newspaper are doing a online poll for people to vote for their favourite northern city (not sure why Birmingham is in there).

So far Sheffield is doing quite badly (bottom with Birmingham) - Newcastle and Liverpool leading the pack.

Not sure if Sheffield has a chance of even being in the top 3, but at least lets try to beat l**ds (who are just above Sheffield by 6%).

Why is Birmingham on the poll?, its in the midlands.

It's a London paper - so anywhere north of the Watford Gap is classed as 'The North'...

So disappointed in the response to this thread, and the voting so far. Here is a chance to vote for our city and the opportunity is met with apathy.
Go on............... Vote...................... and spread the word!!!

the truth is evident. some people will not say Sheffield is a top city in the north. If I had to cast a vote I would say Newcastle as it is a top city, with plenty of amenities and opportunities. I doubt we will beat Leeds also. sorry for the pessimism but I'm a realist.

Oddly enough I was going to post about how apathetical Sheffielders are but then I thought "Oh, what's the use?"......

Maybe this is the root of the problem. The people of Sheffield have become so accustomed to being regarded as a second rate, grim, dirty, industrialised cliche, that they have lost all sense of civic pride and accepted that Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle are superior to them.

Please tell me this is not the case, and please vote.

The only other northern city I have spent any time in is Leeds.
I have only lived in Sheffield though, so can't really vote when I have nothing to compare Sheffield against ;)
