Halfway is much nicer than westfield - follow the previous advice and stay clear of westfield.

Waterthorpe/Owlthorpe and Mosborough are also much nicer.

Ive lived on Westfield for the last 7 years and i have never had any trouble what so ever.

Oh and you get druggies all around Sheffield not just Westfield so dont tar all the residents as druggies.

Waterthorpe would that be where you get massive groups of hoddies hanging around the small shop near the Hawk and Dove every night?

we lived at halfway for 5 years and never had any problems, except our car got stolen but where we lived we had to park the car in a car park no where near our house! was found at westfield too! but we found somewhere else to park it and was fine then. we are now buying a house at sothall, close to rothervalley,as we love the it there.

Westfield is Vile ! A really grubby area - no disrespect to the people who live there, but I think it is awful.

I use the shop ( Ex Spar ) most days/nights and never get any problems from the "Hoddies" if they are there; which isnt all the time.
Anyway Charlie shuts shop at 20:00hrs has done for ages so you'll be safe after then.

Lived in Westfield for over a year moved from the Birley estate the kids on this rd play safe & never had any real probs with the 'youth' eliment.

As Barclay states there are good & bad bits on any estate in Sheffield & yes I do know some bad areas in Halfway or any other area you want to mention

I do hope your nan is well, but Westfield is no worse than alot of Sheffield areas, and is better than some. There are a lot of good areas in Westfield, and alot of good people who have had enough of the 'isn't Westfield awful' line. Some people are actually happy there and don't feel like that.

You really should not tar a whole estate just because your nan seams to be getting targeted. I have lived here 7 years and never had a problem.

I was one of the first people to live on westfield estate, we moved on to Meadowcroft gardens the day the house was built, it cost 12 grand so you can imagine how long ago that was!
The eatate has always been a hard place for teenagers to grow up, even back then going to the shops after dark was an ordeal.
Running battles between the lads from Shortbrook/Westield and the Beighton lads were common.
It all depends where you grew up if you think Westfield is rough, I grew up there and didnt think so. If you are used to gangs, hoodies, drugs and the rest of the urban problems you might not notice it.
Having said that, I have lived all over the world, in some hostile places, ive spent 6 years in the Army, and worked as a bouncer in Rotherham and Sheffield, Im quite street wise, and you wouldnt get me back there now for love nor money. Its dangerous,
I drove through a few months ago just to be nosey and it was so sad.
Like everybody else says, just read the star and see how many times the place is mentioned.
Good luck

Hi there, right i have lived in the westfield area all my life, its been really good then i moved bout 2 months ago just across a field just near the shops and medical center thought it would be nice place for me and my boyfriend then we have had trouble the last couple of nights with youths - chucking stuff at my windows and starting fights with my boyfriend and dad, even though we keep ourselfs to ourselfs n never said anything to neone. The police and council are trying to combat the problem but it just seems to be getting worse, we are thinking about moving :( just so we can settle down and have a nice quite life but hey i guess council prob wont even move us, so my advice would be yes go for the westfield area probably the shortbrook or eastcroft area just nothing past the shops towards challoner or pedley lol.

The further you go towards Moss Way & Owlthorpe Greenway the less chance of trouble . moved from frechvile/birley over a year ago to Westfield n hardly any probs, just a bit further up the hill tho than taz_n_tom

My mum's just moved off Pedley after 4 years of being constantly terrified. She lived in a bungalow and the kids were for ever on the roof trying to steal the lead flashing - it's not nice when you are 78 and on your own. She would be watching tv at night and beer bottles would be thrown at her walls. Not long ago someone got stabbed just up from where she lived.

Westfield must be the worst estate ever to live on. When travelling through it on the bus even in daylight it seems a depressing scary place.

The council estates in Eckington for example are clean and safe on the whole.

I suppose it is a matter of opinion and what you are used to as to what you think of an area. The only advise i can offer anyone moving to a new area is to go and see the area for yourself. Only you can make your mind up as to what you will accept. We were told that Foxhill was rough, however we have lived there for 18 months trouble free

My girlfriend lives on Westfield (in one of the parts labelled as bad earlier), and in the last two years, it feels far more intimidating down towards the shops and Golden Keys, than it is up on Challoner...

There are a lot of youths around, particularly those 'not in school' for whatever reason, and the police are quite regularly around - it doesn't help how the estate was laid out, like a rabbit warren - and the walkways can be quite intimidating, especially when a gang of 10 or more kids are hanging around.

Having said that, it's nowhere near as intimidating as it was over on Parson Cross and around that area, at least the last time I was over there around 5 years ago.

My mate livees on challinor, and a person I know lived next to the golden keys.
Both areas were a bit lively, some would say intimidating, but I didn't see any real trouble.
Probably on par with lowedges.

Well you`ve all made me feel like i live in the pitts of hell and I`m a scumbag just like all my neighbours. Even though I`m 44 years old i know pretty much all the young lads around here. This place is not that bad. Stop being a bunch of snobs

I read this debate with interest.

I'm also accused of being a snob because I've expressed my dislike of certain places around the city.

It gets the kind of reaction as in this thread:

Those who live in that area rise quickly to defend it - "lived here all my life, never seen any trouble, there are worse places" kind of response. Or, "there is a bit of trouble sometimes, but over there, not over here where I live".

I know Westfield area pretty well. I used to go to school there and saw it emerge from a no-mans land between Halfway and Mosborough. Now it's a huge sprawl of housing and like a lot of these big estates it comes with its problems. That doesn't mean all the folks who live there are scumbags and vagabonds by any means. But, some are - and even if they don't actually live there they visit the area from nearby and cause problems.

I think that this is indisputable and actually the advice to go and live there and try it is not good advice at all. I don't think that people are queuing up to buy houses in an area like this so be very, very careful.

You'd be much better off buying a lesser house in a better area for sure. Even just down the road in Halfway or Mosborough, away from the big housing estates, would be miles better.

If you already live there and are happy with your lot then that's great and good for you. But facts are facts I'm afraid.
