View Full Version : Walk through Bradford Dale 25.2.07
ItIsNow! 18-02-2007, 18:20 A walk through Bradford Dale,Derbyshire, is being arranged for next Sunday, the 25th.of February.
Current members of the walking group are more than welcome to come along as is anyone else who cares to join us.
Up to now, three people have offered to provide lifts out to Youlgreave.Anyone else who is willing to offer lifts - please state on this thread.(Thanks!)
The walk starts in the village of Youlgreave and along the River Bradford (a very steady and picturesque walk..).Then over the road at Alport and across the fields to Conksbury Bridge - back then to Youlgreave. This isn't a long walk - 4 miles,or so.
There are two hostelries in Youlgreave - so a chance for some Sunday lunch if anyone feels peckish.
We need to discuss who's coming along, pick up times etc.The journey out to Youlgreave takes about 40 minutes, taking it steadily.
Oh,and.....

Albert T Smith 19-02-2007, 21:10 I'm in for this one. But I've got my woman mixed up with whom I've arranged to kindly give me a lift. Is it IsItNow or feargal or are you both the same one?
ItIsNow! 19-02-2007, 21:32 We're different people,Albert.I'm the one who video'd for you,last Sunday.
I can certainly give you a lift.I'll PM you with the details later on in the week.

Thank you. If you'd like, you can do the videoing next week also.
All we need now is a Video tape editor - film maker.

Non-forummer Andrea's striding out with us on Sunday too. Anyone needing a lift from Hillsborough area, give me a PM!
ItIsNow! 21-02-2007, 11:08 We need to start firming up some details for the walk. How should we arrange meeting up? Do you want to meet me somewhere on the way to Youlgreave and you all follow me?
A good place for a rendezvous would be the car park of the Moorlands restaurant at Owler Bar.We can continue on from there.
What say you all?

Moorlands sounds good to me, at whatever time you want. Are you bringing the bacon butties, or do we provide our own this week?
Seeing as it's only a relatively short walk, what time are we "rendezvousing" if that's the right word? 10.30 at Moorlands - would that get us to Youlgreave for 11.00 am?
(and that's not just so we can stop off for elevenses first!) :hihi:
ItIsNow! 21-02-2007, 12:09 10.30 at the Moorlands is OK by me.( We'll have to bring our own bacon sarnies,I'm afraid. :( ) That should get us to Youlgreave by 11o'clock.
We'll be driving through the Chatsworth estate towards the junction with the Matlock road - is that the A6? Then it's right towards Haddon Hall for about a mile - then left up to Youlgreave.
I'll PM Albert to arrange a lift for him.( I can pick him up on the way out to Owler Bar.)
I`m waitng to find out whether Bambi is coming (for a change!) then I can see what room I`ve got in my car. Hopefully I`ll get to know later today. I`ll pick up Taxman and Grissom too, then see who else I can fit in
Albert T Smith 21-02-2007, 18:04 Is the walk a Flask and sandwich day or is there a café or pub selling food in Bradford Dale?
I'd like to come on this walk but I'll need a lift - along Abbeydale Road is probably easiest for the driver. I have a map and can navigate if anyone's good at getting lost ;)
'Fraid we can't make this one

Is that timing OK for you?

Looking forward to the walk.See you all tomorrow.:)
Albert T Smith 25-02-2007, 08:24 I've just arrived back after travelling neigh on 460 miles and I feel K------d. So I won't be joining this walk. All being well I will with you on the next one.
Hope you all have a good day.
It's a shame you couldn't make it Albert - it was another excellent walk! Thanks to Itisnow for organising it... a lovely stroll though Bradford Dale, featuring a nice pint and lunch at the Farmyard, and then another walk after lunch. Even the (very) muddy bits were great! Much slipping and giggling trying to stay upright - and that was before the pub stop :o
And sorry to everyone else, but I have to say, Sassy was definitely the star of the day
Really nice walk (yet again). In fact, we had two walks today, Bradford Dale in the morning, followed by a nice lunch at the Farmyard Inn at Youlgrave. Then an off the cuff hike in the afternoon through some beautiful countryside near Youlgrave, towards Middleton in Youlgrave. Total distance estimated at 8 miles.
Huge thanks to ItIsNow for arranging this, and for steering us to a lovely pub (twice) for much needed refreshments.
Small downside? Never seen so much mud in my life, and never seen such muddy fellow walkers, as opposed to yours truly, and mini-scubz, who kept mud free for the duration! Ah well, we can`t all be perfect!
[posted message too early]

Yes, slightly suspicious of this... :suspect: I suspect Scubz has some kind of anti-muck forcefield. Not a skerrick of mud on him, whilst the rest of us looked like we'd been 10 rounds wrestling a mud monster.
Thanks to Itisnow for the fab walks and Scubz for the lift
Fab scenery and lots of wildlife on this walk - Grebes, Dippers, a Robin, lots of Sheep with HUGE ears, lambs that are early or on steroids, quite big fish (trout ?) and Moorhen and Coots :) Oh, and of course the ferocious Dog :suspect:
Photos of the wildlife, mud, hills etc are here :

Albert T Smith 25-02-2007, 20:11 Grissom - Thanks for the photographs.
Sorry I just could not make it. But after a round-about journey of 450 miles I just could not face it. (am gettin old!!)
See you all next Week?
ItIsNow! 25-02-2007, 20:21 Yet another great walk. Thanks for coming along, everyone - glad you enjoyed it.:)
I've only just got all the flippin' mud off my boots - never seen them looking so bad! :o
Sassy was an angel - I wish I had half her energy!
Some FAB pics there,Grissom - number 12 is a scream.:hihi: Thanks for taking them - it's great to re-live the walk through your photos.
See some of you on Wednesday.:)
ItIsNow! 25-02-2007, 20:23 Hi,Albert! Sorry you couldn't make it today.
You're more tham welcome to come along next week.:)
Godzilla 25-02-2007, 23:15 Sorry I couldn't make this one, but Grissom's photos always make me feel as though I was right there alongside everyone. Splendid pics as usual. Don't think I'll be able to make the pub meet as Mr Godzilla is very late home from work on that day and I have to deal with dogs when I get in after work. See everyone soon I hope.
Great photos again Grissom! I like how you always make it look so sunny. :D
