Hi

Just got a Chile Rose Tarantula from the guys at the Exoctic pets in Attercliffe, been after one for a while now, took the wife with me and she said 'go on get one', well you don't say things like that to me..lol

I'll get a pic as soon as he's settled in..

We already have a baby Chile, but wanted one a bit bigger.

Can't have any more though, just like you i've no more room. (what with all the other reptiles in the house)

I'll have to wait till get a bigger place!

Just the 1 reptile viv atm, with 1.1.1 Anoles. Hope to get couple of Green US Tree Frogs in there too before long.

Latest project is setting up a desert tank for a small swarm (plague?!) of locusts!

It's a boy you've got then? Personally speaking I'd prefer to get a girl, if only because they live for about 5 times as long.

I used to have a Chilean Rose, and a Chilean Pink, but I had to find them new homes because I got extremely allergic to their urticating hairs on their abdomens. I couldn't even open the viv without my face swelling up and causing an asthma attack within minutes, so I reckoned that wasn't much of a life for them, especially Octavia, the Chilean Pink, who loved being handled and spent as much time as possible out of her viv and up someone's arm.

One thing that you may or may not be aware of- tarantulas seem to exhibit an individual choice in food just the same as any other animal. One of mine liked crickets, but wouldn't touch locusts unless she'd not had anything to eat for weeks, and the other loved locusts, but wouldn't touch crickets unless she was really hungry. Officially both species eat either, but that was not the case, so if you get feeding problems try changing dinner.

Both of them used to love the occasional house spider or similar as dinner though- and they're free if you have a garage or cellar.

I hope you and he have a lovely relationship- and hurry up with the photos!!!

Big ;)

My smaller one is now adult and would cover palm of an adult man's hand.
The juvenile is about the same size atm but will grow to a legspan in the region of:
"The leg span is usually up to about 10 [inches] (25 cm) but can be up to 12 [inches] (30.5 cm)." from here (http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reptiles/spiders/GoliathBirdEatingSpider.php)
