Did anyone watch the first episode of the new Spooks series which was on BBC 1 at 9pm last night? After struggling to find something good to watch for most of the summer, it's good to see some home grown, easy (yet enjoyable) viewing.

I wonder how they will write out the main character (Tom?)? I heard that he left the cast to do a period drama... I thought they were going to kill him off last night, but they didn't...

After a long awaited return, i thought the programme started really well, but came to a bit of a quick and tidy ending. I thought they might stretch the 'Tom is a baddy' storyline a bit further than just one episode.

but still like it and i can't wait for next week.

- good acting,
- not just relying on special effects

next weeks looks a bit close to reality with a weapens expert groomed to do the governments dirty work...... could be interesting viewing. wonder whats its based on!

I have to wonder if the new member of the team is the ready made replacement for Tom?. He did do quite a good job though!

I think Spooks is great, although I thought they might let the "Tom is a baddy" storyline go on a bit longer too.

I didn't know Tom was going to be leaving though! I hope he doesn't get killed!

I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of the current series has in store for us. They certainly don't hold back with dramatic storylines that's for sure!

To be honest I'm very glad they didn't drag on the "Tom is a bad guy" storyline very long. It's very unoriginal (so many Hollywood movies involve the good guy proving that he really is good) and therefore they were right to move on and clear it up. That's my two pence anyway.

The 'Tom is a baddy' may have run longer if we, the viewing public, had been as convinced of his guilt as other members of MI5. As we weren't, it was a relief that the story didn't go down that route. The new face, Adam, is a bit of a Tom clone, imo, and it's obvious that there will be future clashes between these 2 alpha males.

A damned good show and the licence fee is worth paying for this series alone.

Who was the little scrote (best description for him really :hihi: ) who was stirring up trouble with the police investigation and generally trying to kick out the MI5 bunch? They didn't really bother to explain who he was or why he was so anti-MI5...

I'm guessing that Jason Belling, if that's who you mean, is a New Labour apparatchik attempting to use Oliver Mace in a power struggle to create an uber spy service. Possibly this will be a thread running through the whole series.

I've watched Spooks since the beginning too. I think it's a cracking programme.

I'm such a wimp! I cried when Tom left!

Can't say I can recall what other programmes the actor who plays Adam has been in. I didn't see him on Richard and Judy.

Copied from MI5 website

How realistic is the depiction of MI5 in the television series "Spooks"?

The BBC's "Spooks" is a slickly-produced and entertaining drama, but, like other works of spy fiction, it glamourises the world of intelligence. The nature of our work can certainly be stimulating and highly rewarding (as the show's strapline declares, it is not "9 to 5"), but the programme does not portray the full range of our activities, nor the routine, but vitally important, aspects of our operations which would not make such exciting viewing. Particularly unrealistic is the way in which the characters in "Spooks" regularly act outside the law in pursuit of their investigations! If you want to find out what working for the Security Service is really like, go to the About MI5 section of this site and visit our recruitment website: www.mi5careers.info.

I'm not so sure Tom has left yet. Think about it: Series 1 ending, Tom apparrently blown to bits trying to save his other half.
Series 2 ending, Tom shoots his boss and then goes out to sea to maybe drown.
I can't see Tom just walking away from MI5 like he did last monday, more like he has gone into deep cover, possibly doing some shady investigating, trying to find out who in MI6 is trying to discredit the team maybe?.
Hope i'm right anyway, i'll be gutted he left so quitely!

Hi
After watching the first few episodes of these new series,i see that they have decided to replace tom with a brand new character supposly from M16 to added a touch of class to the department as it were.
I think Spooks is a good drama series as every week they is a new plot and every so often they have a two parter to it which makes it more interesting
what do others on this forum think of how this new series is planning out as i be very interested to hear you views on it
take care

After last week's episode, which seemed to drag on and on (just get on with it Danny!) I was disappointed to see this week's episode to be equally dull. In fact, I only watched the first 10 minutes! Any opinions?

I have watch every eposide of "Spooks" and what a good programm it is - but the last 2 eposides have been a real let down - both eposides where dull and seam to last for hours.

Hope the next eposides gets Spooks back on track.

I loved the first series but I think the current one is getting worse and worse (bring Tom back!).

It seems the current series has just been about writing out the main characters!

I missed last week's episode as I managed to mess up setting my video to record it. Don't know what I did but it didn't record! Doesn't sound like I missed much though.

I've still been quite enjoying this series on the whole though. But I'd quite like to see Tom come back! I thought we were going to see the whole alpha male clash thing though with Tom and Adam (as someone else mentioned in this thread I think) but Adam has just been a straight replacement for Tom by the looks of it.

I haven't watched last night's episode yet so don't tell me what happened! (Providing I managed to set the video right this time!).

*** Don't scroll down if you haven't seen last episode ***

So, in this series they've "let go" of one agent, jailed (well sent abroad) another and now they've gone and killed off the last remaining "day to day" spy (i.e. not that GCHQ woman or their boss).

I can appreciate that killing off established cast members is a good ratings winner, but surely it would have been smart to keep at least 1 of them?! It's a bit like Teachers, another old favourite of mine... which makes me think - I should start a thread about that too!

I agree Geoff:(

I would have liked to see Tom return in the last episode and for Danny not to get shot.

Now they will have to rename it 'S' because all the 'Spook' has gone out of Spooks

What a quality programme - I came late to the series but it was one of the best things on TV for a while (not including 'Bodies'). I would guess that that Asain guy who was in the last episode will be a part of the new one?

Cant wait till next year! Why, though do British programmes only last for a few weeks - it so annoying, theres not much decent on anyway. In the US dont they all run for 24 weeks? Instead we get stuck with Holby City week in week out:rant:
