Hi,

Several months ago I was asking for information on living in lowedges. I found that there were lots of negative comments from people who had only 'heard' about the place. Anything good that was said was by people who lived or had lived there.

Well, I took the plunge and moved to Lowedges with my two children. So far I am pleased with my move. I've had no trouble and there are lots of amenities. The place is pretty clean and filled with lots of decent people who take a pride in their homes.

I'd like to say to those who condemned the place without credible knowledge, you are being extremely unfair continuing to damage the reputation of an area just on hearsay! An area cannot improve or change unless respectable people are encouraged to reside there, and your comments are enough to put anyone off.

I'm sure many of you feel there are far better places to live, though I suspect much of this is mere snobbery, but some of us are forced by circumstances to not have the luxury of choosing the exact location we would prefer to live or raise our children. For those of you who are thinking of moving out here, believe me, I've lived in far worse places and in comparison to them Lowedges is a very pleasant area.

I lived in Lowedges on Becket Road, in a 1 bedroom flat for over a year in 2002 and I had nothing but trouble from the day I moved in from the day I moved out. I had a very nosy neighbour living above me and he loved nothing more than having 40 people (we counted) in a one bedroom flat every night, with very loud music -, smoking and doing god know's what. There were fights because of him and I never felt safe there as his mates were around his flat and hanging around Lowedges all the time shouting abuse at me and people I knew.
He also loved to steal cars and rally them around up and down the road I was on.
We tried to take him to court because of it all, but before it went to court he left Lowedges for a few months and got let off. What's the wrold coming to?
All I can say is from the experience I had of Lowedges I don't want to move back there again.

I've had several friends and a girlfriend living on Lowedges, the estate like so many large council estates has it's good area's and it's bad. The Magpie pub for example used to have a lot of low-lifes and they used to say if anything was stolen from one of the estate houses you could buy it back the following evening from one of several customers.
Most of the people up there are fine but it only takes a few nuisannces to spoil it for a lot of others, the bus terminus and the public toilets there were the hang out for a small group of kids who seemingly created 90% of the trouble and vandelism in that area, despite many complaints the council didn't seem to be in any great hurry to crack down on one particular family and I bet the police could of given you the shoe size let alone the name of three of the little darlings.
