probedb 16-02-2007, 10:51 AM I saw the new estate last year but people on here were complaining of bins being set alight, vandalism etc?
Just wondering what the area is like now? I.e. Bassledene Road, Queen Mary Road, Wulfric Road etc?
Cheers :)
jo2310 16-02-2007, 04:35 PM We've lived here for nearly three years now and have not had any problems.
We had a new apartment on Fitzhubert Road which was fine and now we live in the middle of the estate in a new house and it's fantastic.
Kids hang round the shop on Fairleigh at night but no problems near the houses. Just like any other estate really!
probedb 18-02-2007, 02:55 PM Thanks for the info :)
nexus_ 19-02-2007, 09:55 PM I lived on Fretson Grn until about 8 months ago and never had any problem with the estate. Sure there were 'gangs' of kids that roamed around but they never caused any trouble and they seemed happy enough entertaining themselves in the park area. The people on the estate were friendly and certainly seemed to look out for each other and my nice car never got touched :)
Phylis 21-02-2007, 09:02 AM We looked at buying a house on there. The three that we looked at were lovely houses but the area just looked too rough. I think it was the burnt out caravan on someones drive that did it!
jo2310 21-02-2007, 11:32 AM I don't know where you were looking but there are certainly no burnt out caravans outside any houses on the new estate, nor does the estate look rough!!
Phylis 21-02-2007, 01:54 PM The estate itself doesn't look rough, but you can't stay in the estate forever you have to come out sooner or later. The caravan was on the road off Bassledene Road which isn't part of the private owned estate but joined onto it and yes that is rough.
S2 itself is pretty big. You need to know which roads and areas people are on about when they talk about S2.
xiphias 22-02-2007, 08:43 PM We live in the Castlebeck area and most houses are privately owned. We bought the house 7 years ago and are still here. We never had any problems with the kids although they hang out a lot. Neighbours look out for each other and look after their properties very well. We extended our house last year and now enjoy an affordable but stunning 5 bed property.

I don't think the people who live on that road would agree with you. I know people who live there who are respectable people, have respectable jobs and pay for their children to have full time child care whilst they work (they are not claiming benefits before anyone says anything like that!!!)
AND we do come out of the estate. There are several well maintained parks where we regularly take our 2 year old to play and my husband walks down Wulfric Road every morning to work and every evening after work without any trouble.
Phylis 23-02-2007, 08:53 AM Each to there own I suppose, but we didn't fancy taking the chances with our two beloved classic Fords. We looked at loads of estates around Sheffield looking for a housew with a garage and drive for under £115k and to be honest the houses were the best that we came across and should be for nearly new houses, but the risks far outweighed the advantages for us on this estate. Now if you don't drive a fancy car or a classic car then that win't bother you. As it happens we stumbled on a lovely 2 bed semi in Foxhill for well under what we expected to pay. The neighbourhood is great all the neighbours look out for each other us included and we are having a great time. The estate isn't the prettiest but it doesn't pretend to be either.
jo2310 23-02-2007, 10:48 AM I have a new toyota corolla sport Septemeber 2006 model and i'm not bothered about leaving it on my drive. I have had 2 brand new cars in the time i've lived here and not had so much as a single scratch.
Having lived in Halfway previously on a very expensive estate my car was scratched along one side from front to back by kids with nothing better to do!!!
You get trouble everywhere!!!
Phylis 23-02-2007, 01:54 PM Of course you do. Don't take this the wrong way but a Toyota Corolla isn't exactly at the top of every car twockers wish list (which isn't a bad thing). We have done the same and bought a 2006 Nissan Almera. Run of the mill ordinary car with good security. Not very likely to get nicked. It isn't the almera we were afraid of getting nicked/damaged but the two classic fords we own and cherish. Easy to pinch and seen as cool cars, according to the youth on our estate that is!
JennyB 23-02-2007, 07:12 PM We have a Subaru Impreza, WRX. That hasn't been touched since we moved in Oct. Prior to that we had 2 almost new Vectras and a new Celica. Never had any bother.

Dear Phylis what misconceptions you have. we bought on of those new houses last september. we have two fairly new cars and also a classic car we haven't experienced any problems at all i'd rather take my chances here than at foxhill

Now that the estate is nearly completed it's turning into a great community. it is believed that work will be commencing in the near futre to start building a further six hundred houses and appartments on the land moving down towards harborough avenue.

New cars are not what car thiefs in these areas nick as the people nicking them are kids who haven't developed the ability yet to get around the immobilisors. So your new cars will be safe. Our problem was having two classics. One in the garage the other left to the mercy of the twockers. The drives on the estate are too small to get the car on and a security post as we have managed in our house on Foxhill. It also has a very large front garden and a large rear garden. Neither of which we would have gotten in S2 as they all resemble postage stamps. In all fairness we had the pick up truck nicked where we are now, but it was our own fault as we didn't put thew disclock on. Other than this there has been no trouble in our area and everyone on the street is sound enough and friendly enough. How many of your neighbours do you know and do they look out for your property when your not there?
JennyB 26-02-2007, 11:43 AM My neighbours are great, and next door but one too. We all seem to appreciate that as it is a new estate you have to get out there and make friends with your neighbours. The sense of community spirit is strong and people look out for each other. I like it up here, I don't like the sweeping generalisations that people make - ie: the gardens are like postage stamps... no they are not. Have you seen all the gardens? Have you seen all the houses? My guess is no.

in answer yes i know my neighbours. yes they look out for the house when we're not here. and always fit the security regardless of where you live
