Anyone live near Thorpe Salvin? There is a lurcher running loose and has been for some time but is very very nervous and wont be approached.

The dog warden wont entertain it because it is uncatchable

I have been told that the rescue involved has made contact with a chap in Notts who loans out dog traps but they dont know where to site the trap where someone can keep an eye on it.

I am on the understanding that the dog will have a place in rescue once it can be caught.

Can anyone help?

I will try and get more info on this dog. I dont think it is the one you saw Katie as Thorpe Salvin is quite a way from Gleadless

I have tried to ring the contact on her home number and have left a message will keep you updated when I know more.

I do know that the rescue have been trying to catch the dog for two weeks in Thorpe Salvin, so I cant imagine it is the Gleadless dog. Unless its got a thing for Co-op pasties, dont think theres a co-op in Thorpe Salvin :hihi:

I'm back up tomorrow but it will be late, I'll go up & see if I can find it. I suspect all the usual tricks have been tried ? Food ? Treats ? ETC ?

A few people have tried to no avail the dog is too scared and runs at the site of anyone, which is why the trap is being used as a last resort. Ideally they would like one person to feed the dog the same food at the same time and then set the trap in that area so that that person can keep an eye on the situation. The ideal solution would be someone who lives in Thorpe Salvin who could gain the dogs trust.

Latest info:

The dog is a rough coat lurcher light brindle colour and has been seen in Harthill and Thorpe Salvin he/she has been "on the run" since before Christmas. A chap living in Harthill did actually have the dog but let it go again as he did not know the dogs history. It has been known to follow a Rotty which was being walked in season which makes us think it may be a dog.

Seeing as the bloke who caught the dog did manage it in the past, their is hope that we may be able to catch it without the use of the trap.

It has been fed at The Parish Oven pub on Mondays and Tuesdays but it seems that the Parish Oven do not have the facilities to keep feeding in the hope of catching it. Same goes for the butcher in Harthill. The dog is surviving mainly on wildlife as it has been seen in a barn a few times and left the remains. There is a motorway nearby so the dog could easily have been dumped from anywhere.

We are trying to organise a group of volunteers for the weekend to try and track him/her down hopefully Sunday as I am working Saturday. I cannot get the picture of the missing lurcher bitch on dogs lost (as per Lindseys link) as we could take that to see if it is a match.

Another worry is that a local farmer has sheep that are due to lamb and their welfare is at risk.

So if anyone can help please PM me. ;)

edited to say Lurcher rescue have agreed to take the dog once caught.

Just had a call to say that the dog is currently feeding in someones garden and the dog trap fella is on his way there now, so the volunteer meet is called off for this weekend. They dont want to many folk as this crucial stage.

I will update as soon as I know anything.

thanks ;)

latest on this little fella (or we think he is a fella) has not yet been caught and has been sighted on Lindrick Golf Course which is worrying as he would have had to cross the notorious A57 at some point!

The chap who was coming to try and catch him, has not yet been able to come up from the Midlands. Apparantly there are posters all around the Harthill, Thorpe Salvin area about this dog, advising people not to feed him, so we can try and keep him in one place.

If anyone is passing this area and sees him, can they please make a note of his location and either PM me or contact the number on the posters.

Once caught he will be sent to Lurcher rescue for assessment and a home is waiting for him locally.

thanks :)
