I have always been told that if you leave a opened tin of something in the fridge, it will become toxic!

Any truth here???

Depends how long you leave it.

I often leave half a tin of beans in the fridge for a couple of days and never done me any harm. (well, as far as I can tell.....!!)

had to refresh this page a couple of times before it would load have a look
http://www.itscooking.com/How%20To%20Use%20Your%20Fridge%20&%20Freezer.htm
Part way down the page it says never to put opened tins in the fridge.
Unopened ones are ok tho, i`ve always been taught this both at home at school (how long ago is that !!) and it seems to be just one of those things. I do seem to remember being told that once opened something happens to the inside of the tin and something can get absorbed by the food but thats about all i can remember. It might be untrue or it might be related to older type of tins from years ago and not have anything to do with the tins of today. However i still empty the contents into a tupperware container and then refrigerate em. Best to be on the safe side eh?

I'm sure there is SOME useful info on that page, but I think I can figure out what to keep where in my fridge!

Live a little, if you have a healthy diet the odd bit of tin isnt going to hurt you. you'd better spend your time worrying about cholesteol, saturated fat, salt, sugar and all that.

that is very true.

to overcome that tho i have whole tins of beans at a time, surely that is worse for both me and those around me!

Or you could pour the rest of the tin into a sealable tupperware container. Or even an old margerine tub or similar.

Or dont put it in the fridge at all - just leave the half-eaten can on the side, near the radiator.
