Hi everyone,

my teenage daughter and I are 'doing' the Race For Life this year.
It's on June 3rd from the Don Valley Stadium.

I've had cancer and am now, thankfully, all clear, I work at Weston Park as a volunteer and have come into contact with many people whose lives are often devastated by this awful disease.
Although all the money raised will go to Cancer Research I am doing the race for my friend who is terminally ill with a brain tumour.

I'm really hoping to raise more than the present target of £250 and hopefully some of you generous people with sponsor us.:D

many thanks, Karen:thumbsup:

A little off topic but im doing a charity event later this year ( lands end to john o groats cycle ride ) with a buddy of mine who also happens to be a consultant oncologist at weston park.

Anyway i normally donate a few £££ to someone on here who is doing the race for life.

Good luck with your cycle ride, wouldn't mind doing something like that myself one day.

I'm still an out patient at Weston Park, will have to have check ups for life as the cancer I had has a high recurrence rate, luckily it is fairly easy to get rid of too so here's hoping.

My consultant oncologist rides his bike to work, is it Dr W?

No, my buddy is Dr Manifold, treat patients with breast cancer.

Its going to be a 9 day ride at an average of 110 miles a day.

Would just like to say good luck to everyone who is taking part in these charity events i think it is fabulous!
I am 19 and when i was 16 was diagnosed with cancer which i fought long and hard and was in remission and it came back 18 months later when i was 18 and have just finished fighting it again with loads of extra's coz it was a relapse and i would absolutely love to do this to raise money but my health is forbidding me to do it but i am proud the fact my mum raised £1000 for the organisation who helped me by doing a sponsored head shave!

So my respect and gratefullness goes out to everyone taking part as it is people like you who helped fund for the things to help me to get well again!

So good luck to all! :)

Sounds like you've really been through the mill.

It's my gratefulness to those who treated me that's spurring me on to do this Race. For the past two years my health wouldn't let me do it either but this year I'm lucky enough to be able to.

I hope your good health continues and one day we may run along side each other in the Race For Life.:D
