View Full Version : Last attempt - gerbils need a home!
papillon 14-02-2007, 16:24 I've posted once before about this, but not got any responses. Last try before I turn to the RSPCA :(
I have three female gerbils who need a caring home. They're approx 1 year old, 1 black/white, 1 burmese brown, 1 beige/white. They're kept in a large split level glass tank with a mesh top, but Dorrie the cat is frightening them, and keeps managing to lift up the mesh. I don't have any place to put the tank that Dorrie can't get to, and I don't want the gerbils to be in danger. They're really friendly and easy to look after.
I'd hoped that I could train Dorrie to stay away from the tank, but it's not working.
Can anyone offer a home to Milo, D'Artagnan and Figaro? Yes, I know they're male names, but Pets@Home told me they were male when I got them!
baileys_mum 14-02-2007, 16:28 Will they come with tank and stuff? Do they live together ok? no fights or anything
papillon 14-02-2007, 16:34 Yes, they'll come with tank, food bowl, water bottle, and the food and hay I have at the moment. They've lived together since birth, as far as I know, and they never fight.
baileys_mum 14-02-2007, 16:40 how desperate are you? I am in Doncaster you see and have no car
papillon 14-02-2007, 16:44 I don't own a car myself - I'd like to rehome them relatively soon, but they would have to be picked up.
fox20thc 14-02-2007, 16:45 cant you get a friend to take them over for you?
baileys_mum 14-02-2007, 16:45 If you can get them here ....
papillon 14-02-2007, 16:51 Hmm... actually, I think my brother is driving up here this weekend. That might be doable. I'll speak to him this evening and get back to you. Do you have any other pets?
baileys_mum 14-02-2007, 16:52 I have plenty lol, 6 guinea pigs 2 hammies and 2 rats. I had gerbils a few yrs ago loved em to bits
papillon 14-02-2007, 16:55 Oh, so definitely a good home :) I'll PM you later when I've spoken to bro.
baileys_mum 14-02-2007, 16:55 Okie dokie :)
Lindseyw 14-02-2007, 17:07 If you cant sort transport out - let me know, I'll pick up & deliver to baileys_mum.
Hey,
If Bailey's mum is unable to take them i'm sure I can find a space for them.
I have plenty of other Gerbils as well as Gerbil species, if you want to see how they're kept check out my website www.gerbilsite.com :)
Goodluck, and I hope they find a home!

I would love them, always had gerbils, but my last pair met an unfortune and untimely end about a year ago when our inquisitive Norwegian Forest Cat managed to figure out how the mesh top slid out of the glass tank they were housed in... Sadly, that's put paid to thoughts of replacements. Hope you manage to find a good home for them soon xK
geerarffe 15-02-2007, 20:28 If you're still having trouble finding a home I'll happily take them for you.
papillon 15-02-2007, 23:21 Thanks all. Bailey's mum has offered to take them in, and all going well I'll be dropping them off this weekend.
baileys_mum 16-02-2007, 09:42 Just let me know when Papillion
Nutronic 17-02-2007, 17:38 They are settling in well btw :)
papillon 19-02-2007, 09:57 Thanks - good to hear :)
I also have 2 gerbils that need a home and i too have advertised here!!!
These 2 are from 4 left here just before christmas!!! the owner abandond them and never came back , gave false address and never paid!!!!! not that we mind but we need someone to adopt them who has more time and no cats lol
baileys_mum 20-02-2007, 09:31 have you tried advertising in pet shop windows? I don't think we could manage anymore
Nutronic 20-02-2007, 09:49 I don't think we could manage anymore
Agreed.
Plus we aint really got the time for anymore considering we have children too.
I'd say take them to a pet shop because usually small animals like that find a new place pretty quickly, or maybe offer them on a site like freecycle or something
Freecycle in Sheffield do not allow pets to be advertised anymore
baileys_mum 20-02-2007, 11:42 I told him lol. I dunno what else to suggest
Lindseyw 20-02-2007, 11:46 I dunno what else to suggest
Not letting him near the PC perhaps !
:) :)
baileys_mum 20-02-2007, 11:47 I meant as for rehoming them lol
Sheffield Freecycle is in the minority of Freecycle groups who don't allow animals on the site- if you're anywhere else it's worth reading your local group's guidelines to see if there's a policy on animals.
As a Sheffield Freecycle moderator, I don't really feel that homing animals through Freecycle is the most appropriate medium, but that's a decision for each group individually.
baileys_mum 20-02-2007, 12:38 Medusa he didn't mean anything by it, only trying to help
They have been advertised all around for the last 2 months including on here
