I have a video/dvd recorder linked to my tv via a scart cable. I cant get stuff to play on it.

i plug everything into a scart extension box thing.....sky box, video, consoles which plugs into the INPUT socket on the back of the dvd recorder, and the OUTPUT of the dvd recorder goes to the tv, i also have the audio out from the dvd recorder plugged into my hifi seperates so i can play LOOOOOOUUUDDD
and i can also plug the second computer into the tv with a special lead and watch streamed stuff on the tv

You need to connect your telewest box to your DVD recorder.
Your DVD recorder should have at least 2 scart sockets 1 to plug into the TV
and another for a video or DVD recorder.
It sounds to me like you need to connect another Scart lead linking your
Cable box to your DVD recorder.
To record you need to select either AV1 or AV2 from your channel selector on your DVD recorder.
I've kept this as simple as I can but I hope this works for you but if you need help then let me know.
PS you should be able to record from Telewest box or from what you are watching on TV by selecting AV1 or AV2 (depending on how you set it up).
It is better to record from your Telewest box though as if you use the TV you can't switch channels on your tv otherwise you will mess up your recording.
Your TV sould be switched to either AV1 or AV2 (depending on how you set it up) when viewing your recordings.
