Well done on the new horse. Hanoverians have a beautiful nature and along with being part trakkhener and sec D you've got yourself a beauty. Is Koola a mare or a gelding? What colour is he/she?
I hope you enjoy your new horse and you both get on well. xx

Try www.horsemart.co.uk

You can tailor your search to exactly what you're looking for quite easily on this site.

You may be lucky to find something but £1,000 isn't going to get you very far. Just be wary of the reason why a horse would be so cheap, take a very experienced person with you when viewing and make sure you have a vetting.

Thornberry, Millhouse or Haven animal sanctuaries may have something suitable that you could adopt. It would be nice if you could give a rescue horse a good home for life.

Good luck!

I know that a horse is not strictly a pet, but this seems like the most sensible place for this thread to be, so:

Moved to pets.

If I were you I would stick to the one you have on loan for a while. If you are looking for one under £1,000 then it sounds like you don't have all the money in the world (like no horse owner has! ) They cost a LOT to keep. If you have one on loan for a while then it will give you a fair idea of the cost/looking after etc.
Can I just ask?
How long have you had experience of caring for horses?
What do you want one for? (ie hacking/competing/schooling etc)
Why isn't breed/age important? (depending on what you want to do with it this should always be important)
Would you be looking after it yourself? (DIY) or paying for livery?

I can put you in-touch with a rescue place that should be able to match you to a horse, they have a kind of adoption scheme where you take a rescued horse, if for whatever reason it doesn't work out they will take it back.

Sorry to sound un-trusting with all the questions but I have seen so many people take on a horse without knowing how to care for it, and it's just not fair on the animal. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Hope your enjoying your horse on loan. tell us more... can you upload a pic?

Hehe, mine are pets! :D

They do tend to take up a lot of space on the sofa though, and they need awfully big litter trays!

I would start by searching through these if you haven't already. I know of a few horses for sale, none really suitable.
If you want advice on one feel free to ask. I can highly recommend Welsh Ds or part bred Ds as good doers, they are cheaper to keep (seem to be fat off nothing!) will try their best to please you, suit well to British weather etc. You should be able to get a fairly decent 9-13 year old within your budget. I wouldn't get a youngster of any kind just because it is cheaper, unless you have someone with a lot more experience helping you out. Also over 15 year olds have the potential to have more problems and insurance is a fair bit higher.

hi ....

if you havnt yet got your horse.. here a few relastic options for you..
Inm great horse girly so i look around ALOT for horses ...

why dont you tell millhouses animal sanctuary they have well over 300 horses and some are ridable some arnt yet but if you knwo what your doing you can back them yourself wich is sometimes easier as you h ave no bad habbits! also they need to loose some horses.

or york have alivestock market.. horses can go from £50 you can save a h orse from meat! some of these horses are competition horses ex racehorses recently handed over and are lovel lovely horses... id say your looking to pay arounf £750 - £850 at an acution for a well trained ex competition horse. alot of polo jumpers and racers and cast off early! altho dressage horses are expensive as hell as due to their training.

ALSO
thornberry animal sanctuary have great horses not sure on their prices but rescue horses are usally 300 - 500 quid max.

good luck finiding your horse:D

I would recommend going to Millhouse animal sanctuary, or Thornbury if it's closer for you. I had loads of horses on loan from Millhouse when I was younger, they have so many that need some love. If you give them a ring then arrange to go and see them. I used to have horses that were kept there but had responsibility for them and rode them. It's a great way to get into having your own horse, and helping out a rescue place at the same time.
