I'm viewing a house on Longley Crescent later this week, and I'm interested in knowing what the area is like, including bus route availability, local shops, crime, that kind of thing. Any advice or opinions?

am couple of roads away from there,no more problems than any other council estate.good access to bus routes schools doctors shops etc.not too many kids hanging about(only ours)lol!:P main complaint round here is sporadic car crime.stereos thieved, older cars stolen.people seem friendly.

No car, so not applicable ;)

I'll see what I think of the house when I view it, description and pics look nice.

Bus routes are good, few buses to town/hillsborough/meadowhall. There is a Tesco, chippy (though it's very bad!), pork shop, fruit shop, post office, card shop, beer off. Crime not to bad, it's a council estate so no more than usual, actually I think it's pretty quiet, just the odd thing.

You can get that where ever. Just because it happened doesn't make the area rough. I'm sure even dore and totley get crime.

drug dealers :( Negative thing, but all areas have these skulking somewhere around. Never seen them around the area myself though in the 17 years I've lived here.

kids on street corners :| True, but they aren't inside anyone elses houses, sheds, or gardens whilst they're on the street corners.

police everyday even on horses  Good thing, we get the policing we pay for. What other area can say that?

two asian shops. Great, at least they are open when we need them, and especially on Christmas morning.

fox's (sic) as mates. Lovely animals.

ghost town on a sunday. Quiet and peaceful.

no pubs. Thank God for that.

So basically, it's quite a decent place to live.

I would just like to ask what is wrong with an 18 year old having 3 kids as long as their looked after?
I myself have 1 child and am nearly 24 just for the record. But as long as kids are looked after properly does it matter?

you are still a kid at 18 thats why, how you can you possibly lookafter 3 kids?

I think you'll find 18 is classed as adult and seeing as the legal age for you to have sex is 16 then you can have kids from then. Well technically earlier. As long as kids are looked after it makes no odds. I'm sure some 18 year olds do better than some 28 year olds!

A girl I know had a kid at 13, which I do think is young but she's managed and the kid is very very well cared for. I mean you read some awful stories in the paper about kids being abused etc. so as long as there being looked after isn't that what counts?

My brother lives at Longley. In the last 18 months there has been a murder (stabbing) at the end of his road and one of his neighbours has had his windows shot in.

I don't want to say if it is bad or good. Like any estate is Sheffield, it has good parts and bad parts but i would rather think twice before buying there.

My brother has lived there for for 10 years without any problems.

I'm intrigued to read about the excitement on Longley estate. Also very interested that some people don't think it's all that bad. When I last visited, in 1967, there was nothing like dope or murder in Longley. [Oh yes, just one incident on Longley Crescent - a sad story] The Forum theater was new when I first moved in to Piper Close in 1938 and I was seven. I heard later that the Forum became very rundown. Don't know the story but my younger brother told me that a chandelier fell down into the aisle during a movie. I've lived in California for the past 40 years. No excitement here except watching the oranges grow.

I just wonder how they manage to work and look after children, on their own, and at such a young age. I can't imagine they have the qualifications or experience at 18 to earn much. Perhaps there is a partner who supports them financially - or do they prefer to claim benefits?
