Hello!

I was here a short while ago picking all your brains' for information on where to get a Samoyed puppy from. Thanks for all your help, but now I'm here with another query.

On my journey, if found there was a KC registered breeder but that was in Ireland, so that was no good! I wouldn't be able to get over the North Sea in my car.

After a long while more searching, I came across an advert for a puppy needing rescuing. I replied and got someone proclaiming to be a breeder who had given 2 puppies to a Reverend who now finds himself in West Africa spreading the good word. He says the puppies find it too hot there so need adopting. Now, the problem is I'm not sure if I believe this. The email I got back seemed unreal somehow and I didn't know what to make of it. For example, 'The pups I advertised is now with Reverend X who has been working with theological education for the past 20 years and his goal is to train men and women to serve the kingdom of God. He is the founder and president of the South American Theological Seminary in Londrina Brasil.'
Is a quote from the email. Is this just my Catholic School education making me think people don't talk like this unless they're nuts or does that sound odd?

Anyway, I emailed the reverend in question -as suggested- to see if the breeder was just a little eccentric. I got a response this afternoon and he says the puppies (yes, it seems there are now 2) are Actually in West Africa and if I paid him a sizeable sum of money he'd ship the pups over. Its full of religious phrases and promising eteral gratitude etc.

My problem is, without all the odd language, I didn't think you could just ship animals about wherever it pleases you! Do they not need checking and passports or something? What on Earth is going on here?

Oh, it seems in my confuddlement I've left off some bits I wanted to add.

The Rev. says that its just too hot for the puppies and they cant get on in it. Fair enough but the dogs are only 3 month old. Im sure if you were going to be a missionary in West Africa you'd know about it a bit in advance and hence not get any new puppies.

The 'breeder' says the pups are AKC. What does it mean having an AKC dog in the UK. (This of course is somewhat of an unrelated tangent as I think it'd be stupid to send money to these people so shall continue my search elsewhere).

To answer your question, littlestarshine, he wants £400 per dog and you can get a puppy here with a good pedigree for about £500 - £800.

It's playing on my mind a bit that these people might be either out to scam people or else just stick dogs in a box and try and post them. If anyone thinks they know what (if anything) I should do about this, I have the emails if their content might help make their intentions clearer.

Oh, yeah. I have no intentions of even considering this, I just wanted to figure out what he was playing at. I hope to god the puppies are entirely fictional.

I know about the AKC but I was just trying to say that for puppies in the UK does them being AKC hold any benefits as them being KC would be. It was just an aside really.

AKC means nothing over here, dog might as well be mongrel. Chances are these dogs are fictional and they are looking to scam you out of money. Have you ever considered going to Crufts? Thats where most people go to find breeders if not anywhere else

I reckon they are over here but the story makes out they are in trouble and you want to help the puppys out its a scam and I would report the add as a fraud.

Reading all that, I'd be inclined to believe that the pups don't actually exist at all

If they do, they aren't in the country they are supposed to be - and it's a right 'heart strings' job of a fraud

Isn't there a samoyed breed rescue in this country?
(or attend a champ show to see a number of breeders in one place)

Yeah I agree, there are no puppies! It sounds like it's just a big con, pick on an unusual type of dog that aren't so easy to find, longhaired (to get away with 'it's too hot') and ask a ridiculous amount of money to ship nothing across to someone who is willing to pay the money.

Who in their right mind would rehome two puppies to people they've never met anyway?!

As I've said before, either go to a champ show (and as Strix says) to meet breeders, or have a look at the link in Strix's sig... you'll have to wait though I expect, there's not always the right dog for you straight away

watched a programme on this about people in africa sending these bogus emails with a sob story or a business opportunity as a way to get your money.
You would not believe how many people fall for it though, please don't send any money!!
