If you're running XP try restoring to a point where it worked. Failing that, re-install the mouse. Good luck.

try taking it apart to get the ball out and giving it a good clean. Even dust overload can affect it.

Hj didn't mention a ball, most mice don't even have balls nowadays.

Your lad has probably changed the settings for your mouse. Try opening the software that came with your mouse and double check it is set to scroll.

Hope that helps if not post back here, and I will try to suggest something else.

LOL... what are you lot like... :loopy:

Anyways... mouse settings can usually be found and corrected via the control panel

ie: Start > Control Panel > Mouse

Look carefully through the options there and you'll probably find he reassigned the wheel to do something different... or turned off horizontal scrolling.

Not an expert here, far from it, but the last time I took my mouse to bits to clean it out I noticed that there is a light type lens which looks through perforations in the wheel. I assume this senses when the wheel is turning, and which way. Might it be that the little fellow has managed to get something wedged inside hence blocking the lens's 'view'.

Silly, I know, but possible?:)
