Trying to teach myself from scratch,it's driving me mad!! ncrossland 10-10-2004, 15:31 Gain at least a basic understanding of HTML / CSS first, a lot of things in Dreamweavers interface and methodology will make a lot more sense. --> www.htmldog.com Macromedia have a lot of tutorials on their site - I'd also recommend popping down to a bookshop and flicking through some of the Dreamweaver books. sccsux 10-10-2004, 15:41 WebMonkey (http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/) have tutorials, referance manuals etc for many web technologies. Dreamweaver is good for getting the overall layout set up. However, you do get a few spurious comments etc from it, which is why I design in DW, then edit with UltraEdit/PHPedit/HTMLkit, to get efficient code! deano 10-10-2004, 19:12 Iv'e learnt basic html,i just can't seem to get my head round dreamweaver,i found it easier to build a website using html than dreamweaver,in fact i havn't got anywhere with it:confused: It just seems more complicated than it should be,maybe it's just me:help: JoeP 11-10-2004, 06:59 Hiya Deano, If it's any consolation Dreamweaver did my head in and I ended up going back to some simpler tools that I'd used in the past. Because quite a few of teh sites I do now are CSS driven, and I'd been using DW mainly to get the layout straight, it wasn't too much of an issue. It's very powerful, but there is a heck of a learning curve. Is the 'Dreamweaver For Dummies' book any good? I saw it around after I'd given up and have occasionally wondred whether it would have helped me or not. Alternatively, do any of the colleges do a course? Joe carcrash 11-10-2004, 11:51 Tritec do a few Dreamweaver courses, basic, intermediate and advanced. They appear to be what you are looking for. But, I have tries to book onto the dreamweaver course and it has been cancelled at short notice twice. deano 11-10-2004, 17:07 Thanks for the advice chaps, got a friend who is going to try to guide me through it,i don't hold too much hope though,my brain went into meltdown this weekend:gag: I do think it is much more complex than it needs to be though, still i suppose it's the same as anything easy when you know how. Will post back my learning results, thanks again. ncrossland 12-10-2004, 07:29 Don't try learning the whole thing in one go - start off just using the basics and learn about the more complex features as you need them. Phanerothyme 12-10-2004, 08:21 Get the dreamweaver MX Visual Quickstart. It's a good start. It's a great program ,for the most part, although it does have some annoying habits (like not putting "{" on a line on its own) when scripting. Perservere. It's worth it when you can knock up a polished site in 24 hours (brochureware) because that equates to less work - more money. Which has always been my favourite equation. |
