Just went out to my car which is parked right outside my house and the passenger door window is smashed to smithereens and my cd player has been neatly removed.

3 things.

1. Can anybody recommend a good car window fitter that will help me clear up all the broken glass and not cost me a fortune?

2. I live in Murray Road Greystones....any neigbours reading this...please don't forget to remove your stereo and belongings from the car.
Big Mistake!

3. Anybody selling a sony car cd player? :suspect:

Happened to me a few months back. Got my window replaced on insurance for 75quid excess (didnt count as a claim) from Autoglass on Fitzwilliam St, see if your cover includes windows. Autoglass were really good, cleaned up all the glass and fitted me in on the same day I rang them.
Sound advice about not leaving stuff in the car, its so easy to think 'Oh ill only be a minute' but sadly it only takes these ****ers half a minute to smash your window and grab your belongings.

Happened to me last year might be worth investing in an alarm as well, Maplins do diy alarms but don't for get the little red flashing light.

Just fit a tape player next time - no one nicks them. Bit of a bind taping all your CDs but its less of a bind than having no music at all.

One alternative to transferring CD's to tape, is to either fit a tape player with a aux 3.5mm jack socket, or have a cassette adaptor, which you can then plug your MP3/Ipod into. Loads of music, but not the bulk of having tapes in the car, or carrying loads around.

I lived on Murray Rd in my second year and the same thing happened to my housemate

I live on Blair Athol Road, the next road up from Murray Road. Last night a car was broken in to right outside my house, we had the police round asking if we had seen or heard anything but unfortunately we didn't. Apparantly it happened around 4am. Yet another pile of broken glass on the road. I've been lucky so far, not had car or van broken into, but I would be surprised if it doesn't happen. It's something most of us have to deal with at some time.

Except that we all get lazy and leave the IPOD in the car....

Just make sure you have a CD player with a detachable panel that doesn't use your standard 4 hole removal tools. Also make copies of your CDs onto CD-R.

Entrapment might work. Give the scum an easy target, then nab the lowlifes.

There seems to be an awful lot of this going on in Sheffield, sure it's not the Auto Glass Companies that are sending kids around to do this ?:suspect:

I'm at richmond and it happend to my eldest son, he'd only called in from work and left his work bag behind the passenger seat, he was in the house less than 5 mins. The police caught them as they were seen, it turned the young lad who smashed and grabbed was 12. Then when it went to court my son had a letter saying the young lad hadn't turned up at court and they would let us know any developments.what angered us more was if he was only 12 why hadn't his parents taken him to court by the scruff of his collar. This is exactly why i want to open a drop in centre(details on a previous thread).

Although i have masses of emapathy and can usually relate as to why these kids do these things all that went out of the window because it happend to my son. He's 19 has always worked even whilst at college, he works full time to pay for a new car, just so someone can come along and trash it. The poor young PC who came didn't half get my grief lol

Not only should his parents be responsible for getting him to court, but they should also be responsible for the outcome of the hearing. At 12, he's their bloody responsibility for Christ's sake.

Did you notice how many times I used the word - or derivitive of - 'responsible'?

Not a word some people with kids seem to be familiar with.

Totallly agree saxon51, there are too many parents that so long as their kids are out from under their feet it doesnt matter where they are or what they do. hense the drop in centre that is very much needed, I aim to show these kids they dont have to do bad things to get attention(cos thats all its for) they can make a difference to themselves and to others by doing something worhwhile.

Such a neat job.
Im ashamed to say that i left a whole load of cds and other stuff in the car....took my eye off the ball trying to get in the house after a weekend away with flu...... Just locked the car up and left the stereo front for all to see. Anyhow.... you can tell that the *******s (ooooohhh Im trying to keep calm!) were only interested in the unit. It was neatly removed and everything else in the car was untouched.

They will only get about £20 for it.
I will Pay £180 to replace it.
Makes you think.......:suspect:
