I just got an email - with the following text and photos - how nice :)

A lady found the fawn under her step (they think the doe might have been hit by a car) .. her Ridge Back dog is helping look after it. The family named the fawn Bella. Once she has regained her strength (she was not in good shape when the family found her) they are going to send her to some friends who (in the past) raised two orphan deer and released them to the wild. Right now she is being bottle fed. Their dog (Hogan) has basically taken over. The fawn even shares his bed.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Cute. I know it's a bit different, but when I was little we had a westie cross who always produced milk and fed any kittens we had (which was a few as mum was always taking in pregnant strays!), even though she'd never had pups of her own.

hehe that's so sweet scoop!

Yeah Strix, they can produce milk if their hormones are tipped enough ;) Some just get so broody watching over babies that aren't their's that they produce milk! Bless!

Our old dog, Harry used to look after Adolf's (the cat) kitten. She just dumped it on him and left!

Ah, is that a useful mechanism to have if you live in a pack - where mum may not survive for whatever reason?

I'm not commenting on humans doing this ;)

Quite possibly...

Did you know men can lactate too?? If the correct hormones are 'aroused' (if that's the right word?)
