Yup - it's spyware.
Time to unleash Spyware - Search and Destroy and run Ad-Aware .

I'll dig out some links - 2 ticks

Sounds like Cool Web Search trojan (CWS)

Look on google for CWShredder

Should be on www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html but sometimes buys/down.

There are some programs that cannot be deleted straight away by Spybot and Ad aware, you have to select "yes" if it asks you to clean your machine after a restart. It then removes them before Windows (and these rogue progs) start up.

Alternatively you could get a decent browser http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/0.9.html

So, has one come back again? Or did only one go when using Spybot S&D.

I had one of those toolbars once and removed it by going into control panel and going on add/remove programs. It was called something toolbar or toolbar something, if you go down the list you should be able to tell which it is.

Previous poster, it's smiley central toolbar or MyWay Search bar - you may think that it has gone with the simple "remove" button but really it just disappears until the next time.

Look at what processes are running with a CTRL+ALT+SUPP then kill unnecessary applications.
In your control pannel/Add remove stuff, uninstall the litigeous program.
If it isn't there, delete any file with the processes name.
also in run, type in msconfig, then in the startup tab look up for unusual programs that have sneaked in and run each time you run Window$.
After that a good Adaware 6 + Spybot S&D should do that trick !

Another solutions is to not go on dodgy sites...
Obvious progs you want to dissable/delete are stuff affiliated to Gain / Gator = EVIL !
Googlebar, Mysearch, Yahoobar : goodbye !

If all this does'nt work you need to do a Hijack This scan and post it on the link below.

You can get HijackThis here:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Post your log here:

There is a package called 'advanced uninstaller pro'. Apparently this deletes all the registry entries of these crappy programs as well as removing them and keeping an eye on anything new.

It also tweaks all other eliments of your registry.

Must have to get it myself someday...
