Whilst we are in the middle of this heatwave, I realised how unfamiliar we are to air conditioning, and how to use it. For instance, I have been in two supermarkets today, both were nice and cool inside and both had the doors wide open. When I walked out, the heat outside was very noticeable, coming out of the cool shop. When I gently suggested that they were letting the hot air in, and it would be cooler if the doors were closed/on automatic, the response was 'I don't think so, it's too warm to have the doors closed'!

Its the same on the newer mainline buses - they have air conditioning but everyone opens the windows so, with the vents for the air conditioning being directly above the windows the cool air gets blown straight outside. Very annoying

It's the same on long distance coaches, when the air conditioning is on ,one must not open the roof ventilators, or all the air goes sraight outside.
