I cant seem to find Out what I need to do to get any info. All the courses I find are just like single lectures not actual vets courses.

And I cant travel that far and would prefer night school as I need to keep my day job for the wife and mortgage.

You're looking at a seven - year degree course or thereabouts I think carpetviper.

only a few universities in the country have vet courses, they are Liverpool, Nottingham, London, Cambridge, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, have a look on their websites for more information

Can't see you finding anything local and especially not nightschool. It's a full time course (only done at certain unis see http://www.medev.ac.uk/resources/links/schools_links) and it's years of work.

Sorry!

sorry only just read the second half of your post

I doubt you would be able to do the course at night school as you need to do out of hours and lots and lots of work experience

A vet course is 7 years & full time.

There is no way you could do this course part time, it is far too demanding, my sister is in her 3rd year & she is exceptionally academic & she is struggling. She had 4 A levels in Maths,Biology, Chemisty, & Physics & she finds it tough going.

I understand its harder to train to be a vet than a doctor. The universities are also more demanding.

Have you considered training to be a vet nurse?

Approx stats are for every 120 places they get 1100 applications

How about being a vet's nurse? Would that be any easier or of any use to you?

It's also far more competitive because there are so few courses. 3A's at A2 level are an absolute minimum, with Chemistry compulsory.

As everyone else has said it's a full time university course for 5 years (the 7 years is a bit of a myth, although at some universities it is 6). Not really something that can be done in a few hours a week at night school!

very very tough CV. I considered it and getting into human healthcare is far easier. long, full-time course and nothing local so you would be looking at being a residential student (not always a bad thing when you need to study).
a minimum of 3 A2 good passes inc chemistry, though that competative, often those who are already post-grad are chosen. (I failed to get in at Liverpool a few years ago with A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and english, plus a BSC in psychology, so TOUGH entry)

my housemate at uni was a vet student she was one of only 4 that started the course straight from school, most of the others had already done degrees or were a good few years older than her

see I would consider vetinary nursing but that also seems to be hard to find courses for.

veterinary nursing usually has to be trained for in practice. either that or a degree at special animal care courses. to get on these courses you have to prove that u wanna do it by doing volunteer work experience etc but vet nursing requirements are 5 GCSEs A-C.

well u have all the qualifications, u should write to all ur local vets with a cv for any available positions within the practice. as far as im aware most vets will keep ur details on file for future reference if any jobs come up. and like i say vet nursing is done in practice so get the job first then earn while u train!

My niece is a vetinary nurse and she studied whilst working in a vets practice. Think it took about 3 years, I could ask her for some details on the training if you want.

Yes please that would be great. I wish sheffield had a zoo that would be my dream job.

I have two friends studying at Bristol vets school, its 5 Years full time (exceptionally clever too, I didnt get a good enough pass in maths so am now training as a designer instead). They have no time to work for their keep either as during holidays they have to undertake work experince on farms/studs etc.

They are seriously in debt.
