What is your favourite film made in or about Sheffield and why do most films make our great city look 'Dingy'?.

My personal favourite is Threads.

well in the example of the full monty, the whole aim of the film was to make our 'great city' (as you call it) look 'dingy'. A film about unemployment in the working classes when they are living in parts of sheffield that are beautiful (and expensive) doesn't make sense really.

Ooh, don't we all have rose tinted specs? I spent eight years away from here, and it certainly isn't now the dingy place it was in the early nineties. The full monty illustrated the atmosphere we have chosen to forget existed then.

A friend of mine was in 'When Saturday Comes' and some of the shots were filmed on Gleadless Valley (where I grew up).
It's not too bad a movie - it's not great tho.

There are still dingy places in Sheffield tho, just as there are good parts and bad parts in every city.

If I caused any offence I didn't mean to strix

None taken, but I thought 'full monty' dealt quite well with how all pervading the despair of unemployment was. Remember Gerald? The foreman with the nice house, sunbed, dancing class?

Apart from the three mentioned so far, what others have been set/made in Sheffield for theatrical release ?
