View Full Version : Help!! I have flights booked and am not sure we can go!
tattytilda 12-02-2007, 14:19 Hi, We have booked 4 flights to Croatia for May this year. After booking, we realised that we will miss a wedding and the hen weekend of a close friend.
The question is.........should we go on holiday and miss the above, or try and sell the tickets. It would cost £120 to change the names on the tickets, to change the dates around school holidays would cost even more.
Help, I don't know what to do
butchill 12-02-2007, 14:22 this is matter only you can answer yourself no amount of advice will alter the decision you have already made have you just asked for advice to justify your decision you have already made
tattytilda 12-02-2007, 14:24 Thanks!! the trouble is that I keep changing my mind.
Should I stay or should I go? (theres a song in there somewhere!)

I should go if your friends planned the wedding and it clashed with your arrangments it was there fault for not planning further ahead Croatia is nice also
Fantomas 12-02-2007, 14:27 With things like this where I really don't know my own mind I find the best thing is to flip a coin to make your mind up.
BUT the trick is: if you find yourself feeling very disappointed with the result, that obviously indicates that you really wanted the other outcome, so go with that one instead ;)
Sounds weird but it works for me!
tattytilda 12-02-2007, 14:34 damn it. I can't believe that we didn't check the dates before we booked. I really want to do both........aggggggggggh.
Like the idea of flipping a coin, might try that later, best of 3!
Rachylou 12-02-2007, 15:56 Cant you just move the holiday for a week before or a week after???Might cost you a bit more but its better than missing out on either of them.
Go, it's a beautiful place to visit, you won't get many chances in life to visit such places, but hundreds of opportunity's to see you friends.
Do you have travel insurance? Can you cancel using that and get a refund (minus any excess)?

Croatia is a fabulous place, but I went there before the war so it may have changed.
Rather than flying in you are better driving, the coast road is absolutely amazing, hewn into the cliff side for its most part.
You have towering white mountains on one side and the glittering blue Adriatic on the other.
Also they used to really like English people, this may be different after our shabby treatment of Milosevec though.

No you can't. Its not a valid reason to cancel a holiday and won't be covered, Its not like tatty didnt know about the wedding just forgot.

Is this your idea of a joke? Croatians hated Milosevic with a vengeance. The only thing Croatians might dislike us for is not treating him shabbily enough.

What about if you got a sick note from your doctor tho? :)
I'm sure you can cancel then and get your money back and possibly for everyone on the booking. Not 100% sure tho but it's a thought.
fox20thc 12-02-2007, 17:17 If you are stricken down with a mystery illness then yes you could cancel...

Yes, I agree, rare admission, right country, wrong fellow.
I mean all I say about Croatia though.
A beautiful country, and worth fighting for IMO.
Sorry for any offence to Croatians.

Dont make the mistake of doing this remember the excess applies to all on the policy indivual .ie £100 excess £400 total and they will not refund airport taxes and security charges so it may cost over £500 to go this route
CHAIRBOY 12-02-2007, 17:40 I'd be searching for an excuse to miss a wedding. You have a bona fide reason! HOLIDAY.

Then you can go to jail for fraud.

Are you certain of that? If you're working on the basis that changing one ticket costs £30, you might very well be wrong; bookings usually say somewhere in the small print that, if you change the names for EVERY ticket, it's classed as having cancelled (no refund) and rebooked (at whatever rate).
Selling them might not even be a useful option here.

surely if the doctor connived in this it would be conspiracy to defraud whish attracts double the sentence for fraud

Take the holiday.

Defo's take the holiday. :)

Get the bags packed. NOW. :)

Possibly; I'm not sure of the legal differences. I just know it's a criminal offence to attempt to defraud an insurance company in this manner; not sure exactly what they'd charge you with.

Ryanair charge £45 per name change and reserve the right to charge price between what you paid and what the price is on the day you change the name. most budget airlines do the same for very obvious reasons.
Ok, then - why not just ring whoever up and ask how much it is to change to another date (unless that's already been done or suggested in which case, I'm sorry for the repetition. lol )
tattytilda 13-02-2007, 09:42 thanks, its £15 per person per flight to change the dates and £25 per person to change the names. We have decided to change the dates and come back early, so we can make the wedding and my cousins hen weekend.
If they decide not to go thro with it now I'll.............................
