Has anyone recently read the article entitled "Earth centre is prasied by american visitor from South Carolina"? I was just wondering on what peoples' opinions were on the Earth Centre, the closing of the Earth Centre, and in particular, the article itself, being that it was written from an American girl's point of view. I would greatly appreciate any responses!

We went there last year and it was rubbish.

Very little there to intrest kids, have hearted staff and rubbish attractions, no wonder it gets no visiters.

We paid to get in then they stung us for another twenty quid or so fo the kis to get on the 'attractions'.

Try as I might I can't think of anything positive to say about this waste of public money.

Spice had a group go not long before it closed. We paid a tenner & got everything including all the adventure actvities included. I can't believe it was such a bargain & all the folks had a great day. Maybe though they'd done this once they'd started struggling.

I'm really disappointed that the earth centre ois closing. It was never meant to be a visitor attraction, but instead a long term resource for sustainable development using only locally found materials and workforce.

it needed a good ten years to grow in, but as usual the short termism of the profit imperative has cut a valuable public project out of the picture.

I think the competition from stuff like Magna was an attribute as well.

Despite the fact that IMO Magna is over-rated and too expensive, £6 each to get in... WTF?! Imagine taking a family 2 Parents 2 kids to it, that's £24 before you've even seen anything, then the kids'll want stuff in the Canteen etc.

Like Phan I too am saddened by the closure of the Earth Centre.

I found it interesting and thought it was expressing an important view on our present way of life.

Situated in a non-tourist area, appealing mainly to a minority, and having an ethos which would not attract commercial support, it had little hope of generating sufficient income to survive.

I hope that Doncaster Council can somehow keep it going in a similar vein.

I agree that the Earth Centre wasn't as great an attraction in the children aspect, but I also don't think that that was it's main purpose. It was a place for learning with a mixture of some fun. On the money issue, it had to cost what it did to sustain business. The money, as I also understand, was partly put towards research.
