It's a really good night. Geoff 26-10-2004, 15:01 FRIGHT NIGHT BIGGER THAN EVER Fright Night, Britain's biggest Halloween party, returns for a fourth outing this October 31st bigger and battier than ever. The event will run from 3.30 - 8.30pm, starting three hours earlier and lasting almost twice as long as previous years. There are lots of ghostly goings on including: fire spinners, live bats in the Winter Garden, Magic AM fancy dress catwalk, face painting, badge making, magic demonstrations, Professor Dumbledare, poetry workshops, and eerie sound effects. The Hallam FM Stage located in the Peace Gardens will also be providing music throughout the evening including performances from boy-bands Phixx and Grounded. Watch out for the spooky street performers wandering about the event, including monstrous mummies, zany Zombies and giant vampires. Youngsters will also be able to take part in a Skeleton Treasure Hunt with small prizes courtesy of Marks & Spencer, entry forms available from a City Centre Ambassador on the night. This monster, free party celebrating things that go bump in the night has grown to be one of the highlights of the City Centre's event calendar. It has also proved frighteningly successful, attracting crowds of more than 20,000 revellers from across the region - many in fancy dress - last year. Organisers are anticipating an even bigger turnout this year. The fourth Fright Night will take place at more locations across the City Centre, focused around the Gothic Town Hall, on Fargate, Peace Gardens and Surrey St. This year the event will also be spreading onto Tudor Square and into the Winter Garden. There will be five hours of spooky goings on from 3.30 - 8.30pm on Sunday 31 October. Entry is completely free and adults, as well as children, are encouraged to get togged up in fancy dress and join in the fun. The Right Worshipful The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Michael Pye will visiting the event and handing out special Fright Night certificates to the most horribly dressed. * Fargate Traditional carousel, helter-skelter, craft market, food stalls, live music, Star road show, scary and street theatre. * Town Hall Sheffield's gothic Town Hall will be transformed into a house of horrors for the evening complete with spooky sounds and lighting. Kids can strut their frightful stuff on the Magic AM catwalk on the Town Hall steps. * Peace Gardens The Hallam FM Stage, located in the Peace Gardens, will be providing music and entertainment throughout the evening with an impressive line up which includes top boy bands Phixx and Grounded. The running order of acts is as follows: 4:35pm Reality; 4:50pm Callum; 5:10pm Evolution; 5:25pm Franix; 5:45pm Supatonic; 6:35pm DV8; 6:40pm Dragonheart; 7:00pm The Skandi Girls; 7:15 Phixx; 7:35pm Grounded; 7:50pm Evolution; 8:10pm Franix. * Pinstone Street and Surrey Street A larger than ever funfair, which includes a ghost train, will spill along Surrey Street to Tudor Square. * Tudor Square Music, fire spinning, Harry Potter style Knight Bus, a loathsome limo and Dracula's hearse. Plus, enjoy New Orleans Jazz Band and barbeque at Ruskins. * Winter Garden The Winter Garden is staying open especially late for Fright Night and will be transformed from a relaxing oasis into a garden of terror! Live bats, Halloween badge making, freaky face painting, appalling picture board, magic demonstrations, and the chance to meet Professor Dumbledare. Scott Barton, Sheffield Events Company who manages the event for the City Council said, "Fright Night has become a monster success. Planning for the biggest Halloween Party in Britain begins each year in May, when ghosts, goblins and ghouls are the last thing on most people's minds! This year's event will be the biggest and battiest ever with event more entertainment and one or two spooky surprises! The longer running time and earlier start to the event also make Fright Night even friendlier for families. Giving people more time to attend." Cllr Gill Furniss, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Environment & Sport said, "Fright Night is frighteningly good fun for all the family. It's the perfect opportunity to bring children into a fun packed, themed environment and enjoy a great Halloween night out. One of the best things about the event is seeing all the effort people put into their costumes and makeup. Over the last three years the event has seen all ages, anywhere from 18 months to 80 years, getting togged up in fancy dress and joining in the fun." Want to e-mail this to a friend?
